Hi all,

This is going waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy off topic, maybe I should be posting in some sort of renovating/home board... but, you guys are pretty reliable ;)

DH and I moved into a brand new condo in the GTA about 6 months ago. It is built by a premier builder. However, I am having some serious issues with my kitchen sink. :confused3

It is made out of steel or something, I don't know anything about this kinda stuff... but I'm not liking it at all. I can leave a pan in the sink overnight and both the pan and the sink will rust. And, we try to be very careful (it is just DH and I, no kids) but the sink is already scratched beyond belief.

Is it just the material it is made out of? Am I being negligent? Is there some sort of cleaner that can fix my problems? Are they all this fussy or is it just poor quality???

I'd love if anyone knows anything about this kinda thing to pass on their insights. Thanks.

:rotfl: I just noticed the banner at the top of this page is "Home Depot", what a coincidence...

Sinks are usually made of "stainless" steel I think. So, for it to rust like that doesn't sound right. Call you builder, tell them your sink stinks and that you want it replaced. I know in Alberta there is a new home waranty on all new homes, maybe you have something like that covering your condo?

You should be covered under the new home warranty. Call the builder. And then a week later, call again, and again, until they actually come. It can take a while.
Good luck!

ROTFLMBO...I clicked on this link because I thought it was going to be about The Kitchen Sink from Beaches and Cream at the Beach Club. :teeth:

Me too!

OP - It's not normal for your sink to have rust spots from overnight dishes (unless you left them there for a week or something). Call your builder on it. Do your neighbors have the same problem?

Hehehe... :rotfl: I wondered if people were going to think it was the dessert :P

I haven't talked to any neighbours about it, that is a really good idea. I think I'll go for that first. :goodvibes Thanks guys.

First, NEVER leave pots and pans or anything that is steel in the sink over night!

Disimilar metals have a reaction that creates rust.

Use warm soapy water, not abrasive cleaners and/or small piece of scotchbrite in the direction of the grain.

Do you know if your sink is a mirror finish or grainy finish? IF it's a mirror finish do not use the Scotchbrite. Mirror finish sinks should not be used in a home unless the sink is for show only!

If you are wondering how I know this, I work with someone who worked for a Stainless Sink Company and just asked him!

BTW, I also thought this was about B&C's Kitchen Sink, that's why I did not read it earlier!LOL

This made me :rotfl: . Who has a 'for show only' sink and is it right next to the plastic covered couch? :teeth:

Honestly, I think I must have a mirror finish :P So much for living.

The funny thing is that I DO NOT use my sink for washing dishes. I put the dishes in it before I load the dishwasher. I have started putting everything directly into the dishwasher and not letting it touch the sink.

Meanwhile, it has gotten soooooo scratched. So annoying!
