What do your kids bring for show and tell? My DD's kindergarten teacher prefers the children don't bring toys, for obvious reasons. I am at a bit of a loss, so any ideas would be great. Thanks!

Maybe a Disney photo album and she can tell about what you did?

Or a photo album of a pet? Or talk to the teacher about bringing in the pet? I don't really know if you cant bring toys LOL

My daughter's teacher comes up with the theme...this week it's to pick something, write three clues about it, and have the class guess what it is when the clues are read. If your teacher won't help out, maybe bring in your daughter's favorite fruit or something of her favorite color. Perhaps a souvenir from a family vacation? A picture of something (family, pet, etc.) is also good.

show and tell should be about something that they can easily talk about - maybe something they did or used over the summer - plants - gardening - sports - if it's too complicated they then might get frustrated trying to get out the story behind the show and tell

mine brought in rocks they found, pictures of people they love, a favorite cup. As long as it was something that they could talk about for a few minutes, it was allowable. Sometimes I would forget so it would be something I found in the car! probably made for some interesting thoughts!

I'm an aide in K this year, so I may be of help.
Teachers love personal items. Pictures of family and pets. A souvenir from a family vacation. Any homemade craft or artwork. Family hobby. Sports the child plays. Thing like this.
When sharing, the kids have much more to say when they are talking about something from their life. And it helps the teacher get a better sense of the child's personality, interests, etc.
Hope that helps!

my son already has a list of things he plans to bring. his foam finger he got at a bruins game, his mickey ears and his magiquest magic wand. those are 3 things he's very proud of. i cant wait till he has a chance to bring them.

My kids had Show N' Tell only in pre-school - never once they hit elementary! Blah!! Anyway - some things we used over the years:

* Their bank
* A flower, leaf, acorn, feather, etc. they found on the lawn
* A birthday card that came in THE MAIL (super cool!)
* Baby pictures
* Karate belt
* Ballet shoes

Tell about:
* His favorite food, snack, tv show, movie
* A vacation, outing or playdate
* A joke Grandpa taught him
* How he learned to jump on one leg 17 times in a row
* How the car had a flat tire
* How mom and dad kissed in a restaurant one night (the teacher was hysterical!)

And my very two favorites: My oldest son did a magic trick one time! He got a set for his 4th birthday and went to town with a simple trick. The kids were AMAZED and he was the cool kid for the day. And my second favorite - my daughter showed how to do a arabesque! Her dance teacher had praised her the week before and she was SO proud.

Really - the ideas are endless. Kindergarteners are full of wonder so its so much fun! Have a great time with it.

my sons preschools usually has a theme for the week.
it's usually bring in a picture of ....

Here are a few topics I have assigned for sharing in the past:
instruments,
souvenirs
pictures of family, trips, pets, places,
tell a joke
tell about a favorite birthday, trip, movie,
something from when he/she was a baby
favorite book
favorite food
favorite dessert/snack/healthy food
tell about parent/parent's job/brother or sister/grandparent
tell about favorite fall, winter, spring or summer activity
recite a poem
sing a song

There are lots of great suggestions here. Thanks so much for the input. My DD says she'd like to bring her Disney autograph book for the first show and tell. Your lists will be helpful for upcoming months. Thanks again.

My DD found the exoskeleton of a cicada, so she's going to bring that in. Sge's so not a princess:.

We have a hamster and while my DD couldn't bring the pet to school, she did bring a hamster book (with several pictures of what our hamster looks like), Baggies filled with hamster food and the hamster's bedding material, and a small, carry-case (should we ever have to take the hamster to the vet).

Possibly a hat that represents a vacation/day trip? My DD's friend brought an Amish prayer cap for Show and Tell and told of her vacation in "Amish Country".

We went to Dutch Wonderland over the summer and my DS is going to bring in an 8x10 photo of him and my DH (on one of the rides) when he has Show and Tell.

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :laughing:

When my DD was three, her preschool had a show & tell day. I thought she might bring in her American Girl doll or something else "pretty". Nope. She brought an ugly, rubber dinosaur-head puppet that she got as a prize in her Happy Meal at AK. She did eventually get into all of the princess stuff, but it didn't last long. Last year, when she was 8, I asked her which princess she wanted to be for the P & PP party. She looked at me like I had 12 heads and said, "I don't want to be a princess. I want to be a pirate." :confused:

My DS brought in two things when he was the "Star Student" - a certificate that he won for best child actor in our community theater group, and his Daddy, who read to the class as The Cat in the Hat. DH had just finished portraying The Cat in Suessical, so he went in with his costume and read - what else? - The Cat in the Hat. The kids and the teacher loved both!

This year, DS will be the Star Student shortly after we get back from WDW, so he'll probably bring something back from our trip. And DH is itching to read to the kids again...I guess it's a good thing he's going back to school to become a teacher!

One time my DS took the book "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" and I made a cookie for each child. The teacher read the book while the kids each got a cookie to eat.

Seussical! I think we may be from neighboring suburbs at the very least. I heard very good things about that show!

(Sorry to hijack a bit!)

Thankfully, ds's K teacher doesn't do bring-n-brag. I would think a personal item is best for show and share, because it's unique to your child and they will be able to talk about why it's unique to them. The Disney autograph book is a great idea because she can tell what characters she met, which were her favourites, how she felt meeting them, etc.

Last year my son brought in his Disney autograph book along with a picture of him and his brother with one of the characters (don't remember which). This year, my younger one brought in his soccer trophy. He told the class he got it for being the "fastest runner". He said the kids really liked it. Their teachers also have a rule of "no toys" which is understandable.

We have no rules for Show and Tell in my DD's Kindy class. Each Friday is Show and Tell and the theme is the letter of the week.

A = Ariel Bath doll
B = Bear Blanket (she picked it cause it was a double B)
C = Coin collection (yes, another double... I'm raising a nerd and proud of it! ;))
