So I thought we would have movie night tonight at home and popped in Return to Neverland. I popped some popcorn and sat down with my 3 and 5 yo DDs.

Half way through the movie my DD3 comes over and tells me she has "boogies" so I grab a tissue and say "blow". To my surprise, out came a popcorn kernel!!!:scared1:

So I go get a flashlight and look up her nose and see more:scared1: :scared1:

I repeat the blowing and get SIX more out:eek: Yes, I said SIX!!!!

At this point I think I still see one in there that won't come out, so I call the Pedi and they say the don't have anymore appointments for tonight (8pm) and that I needed to take her to the ER. While there the doctor pulls one more out:scared1:

Has this ever happened to any of you? I was right there in the room. I did leave for a minute to use the bathroom, but really I was right there. What makes a kid look at a popcorn kernels and say " hey, I think it would be a great idea to jam this up my nose SEVEN time":scratchin

My daughter did this with peas, which I easily got out, and apple pieces, which had to be removed by a dr. They also think it's neat to put things in their ears, too. Go figure.

:rotfl2: I don't mean to laugh, but this is quite normal behavior. Both my brothers when they were little shoved uncooked dry peas up their nose, and my DD shoved a peanut up hers( no shell of course), when the dr tried to get it out( just as it was near the nostril) dd sniffed it right back up and told the DR " I like it there":rotfl:

My daughter did this with a mini M&M without me knowing it. We were at the Columbus Zoo on a very hot hot day, I over heard a little kid say to his mom, ew that girl has poop coming out her nose. I turned around to see what has happening and the M&M had melted due to the heat. Took me a few minutes to figure out what had happened, but when I did, Oh My!

My DD20m does it some times - upon coming home from her grandparents, I had to take a tweezer and pull out a rather large stuffed animals fuzz ball out of her nose - it was green and grose! I can't say I've ever heard of a 3 year old doing it, but my neighbors son who will be 3 in a month or so decided to eat a nut.... and not the edible kind!!! His father called the Drs but I doubt anything could be done other than wait for it to come back out. Just tell him not to do it again..... maybe that will work!!!

I had my dd to the doctor when she was three...she had a raisin up there...thanks baby sitter..you know who you are...:rotfl2:
Anywho..the doctor was able to get it out...but ick...:lmao:

I will make you all feel better! DD had put 'something' up her nose... we did not realize it until I noted her 'bad breath'. This is VERY unusual for a child and of course being a nurse I figured right away she had something up there. DH held her down and I pulled out something.... And I will not share how incredibly icky it was! I believed it to be some kind of cardboard (round) game piece....I truly believe that is was a Mickey Mouse Bingo 'chip' Well, I was thinking that I had not gotten it all,,,, looked like it had 'peeled' in half.... (this is about the size of a nickel) I took her to the Doctor as the smell did not go away. The dr. on call looked and said no I do not see anything. Ok,,, few weeks later,,, I am still brushing her teeth constantly,, make another appt. to see dr. as smell is persisiting. Get Dr. on call.... looks nothing up there.... very nice dr. agrees to do a CT if smell does not go away in 1 week. Of course CT was then done... Noted that DD had 'what they believed at the time to be a nodule or swelling but that nothing else was there. Still persisted.... took her to ENT (locum tenum) his last day there... he takes a quick look.. "oh kids can smell like that ... here is a decongestant. "

Take her to dentist to see if there is an oral issue... Dentist says teeth are perfect. No oral issues... we struggle with this... Pretty soon DD is feeling 'self conscious' about this odor. I call the Doctor... and they offer to have me see on call doctor... assure them that I will wait until the next day when I can see regular doctor. Dr. looks up her nose with a light and glass. and says ok you need to go to the ENT because something is up there. She calls ENT doctor who happens to be off that day.. he agrees to not only see her but come to the office within a hour to see her that day. We go and he uses a special ENT tool... long story short... (He would have put her 'under' next time if any of us had suspected what he would have pulled out. )

He tired to have DD 'blow' her nose... she is tiny so he has difficulty having the light up there and then look to pull it out.... so he had to look and then try to locate and pull... she is bleeding pretty good... He was WONDERFUL and DD was so good. She sat on my lap while he did this... He finally after 25 mintues... pulled out what we thought looked like a nickel... it was terrible and was attached to DD membranes in the nose. We had to have it cultured and a pathology done on it..... it came back (non cancerous... thank goodness) but they are thinking that what ever had been up there had attached itself and the path report came back as necrotic tissue. She was on an antibiotic and has had no further issues. I had to laugh... when we got done at his office.....instead of complaining or crying... she has her nose packed and she sweetly says.... "gosh mom,,, I am so glad the Doctor got that out... no one would have wanted to marry me if I smelled like that." :rotfl2: Not sure where she got that from,,,, but she was thrilled that it was out..

Yes,,,, it is normal to out things up noses and into ears,,, but be vigilant if you think something is wrong.... it may be! I am not sure what more I could have done but it does make me feel bad that she had that 'thing' up her nose for so long.. and the issues it caused. We absolutely love our Doctor and ENT.... They are wonderful!!!! They were impressed with how health DD is and was the whole time this was going on.

When my son was about 2, I picked him up from his babysitter and put him in his car seat. After strapping him in, I looked and saw a brown "thing" in his nostril. I made him blow, and slowly a small twig came sliding out of his nose. :scared1:  Apparently he'd shoved it in while at the babysitter - another case of "thanks alot babysitter" for watching him so carefully!!

Wow!!!! You all made feel so much better. Thanks!!

I guess she is "normal":rotfl2:

The funny thing is, (or not funny) that nothing phases this child. She thought the whole thing was funny. She even told me that she " needed to go to the doctors"

She loves going to the doctors, dentist etc. She has very little fear. Which I guess is a good thing...maybe?

On the other side, my DD5 couldn't even watch as I was removing the kernels from her sister's nose. She ran off in the opposite direction screaming " I can't watch this" She also cried when I told her I had to take her to the doctor:confused3 Go figure!

Anyway, thanks for making feel better:)

When my oldest DD was 2, she stuck a ROCK up her nose, yes a ROCK! DD had found a small rock and stuck it in her pocket and while we were watching cartoons together I guess she felt that was a good time to shove it up her nose, I thought I would die, I told her to blow her nose, and after a few blows it came out. :rotfl: (Oh yeah DD got the idea from the Doctors office lol, the day before she had a check up and another little girl was there that had stuck something up her nose)

My mom told me that when I was 6 (sorta old I thought) she said I stuck beads up my nose :rotfl2: I guess DD was just taking after her mommy

Your lucky you got the popcorn out in a timely fashion. If in the nose for a bit they can swell and be difficult to get out when it gets bigger. M&Ms are a decent option for nose stuffers as they melt in your nose and not in your hands:lmao:

LOL! This brings back memories of my sister and her fascination with sticking things in places. She ended up at the dr. twice as a child. Once for sticking a piece of foam rubber up her nose, which eventually festered - ick! And another time she stuck a small rock in her ear and was painfully extracted by the doctor. After that second visit, she never tried anything again, so I guess the treatment was the cure, lol.

I repeat the blowing and get SIX more out:eek: Yes, I said SIX!!!!

At least it was the nose.

MY DS, nearly 3 now would put things IN HIS EYE!

The worst, by far, was white out! IT ended up causing a chemical burn, but no vision loss, thankfully!

That was the same week he fell on ice splitting his lip on the door, then ran into a wall, causing a goose egg on his head - all 3 days before we were to fly to CIncinnati to have a follow up appointment for a severe burn he had almost 2 years ago.

DId I mention the time I thought he had bad ear wax and he informed me, no, Momma, its cheese! Sure enough, he had stuck cheese in his ear. Better than the gum that was stuck in there last week.

Yup. I was "on duty" all those times! I am thankful the doc saw them as the curious toddler accidents that they were!

Kids are weird. THis was taken before the goose egg was added.

My DD put rice crispies up her nose and my DS has put french fries up his.

Oh the joys of parenthood. ;)

My DD put a Polly Pocket Shoe up her nose. I was out of town at the time. Thank goodness my DH was able to get her to blow it out. We don't let her forget that one.

My dd put a perler bead up her nose last year. She was 5:scared1: She never did anything like this when she was little-never got into anything bad or would even get out of her bed without asking first but for some reason she decided to stick a yellow bead up there and then when it wouldn't come out she wound up getting it up there more.It was early on a Sat morning and we had to take her to the er.They called in an ent because it was so far up there and he numbed her nose and throat and went up there to get it out.Just the other day as I was talking about the magnetic magnets and how they are dangerous and to never ever put them in her mouth-which I have said before so she was mad I was reminding her again she tells me she is not a baby and I said yes but sometimes you do things that you know better and she says I put that bead in my nose because I wanted to see if it would come out my mouth because when you drink something and laugh it comes out your nose.So at least now I know where the thought came from!!

My DD (21 months at the time) shoved 4 peas up her nose. So far up that we almost had to go to an Ears, Nose and Throat dr to get them out since the Pediatrician was running out of options. She was uncomfortable going to far up her nose with "tweezers" since she was fighting the doctor.

the end result, the doctor used her finger to close the side of the nose that did not have the pea and I blew into my daughter mouth (basically mouth to mouth) and the pea came flying out.

My DS when he was 3 also put a bead up his nose. It was at daycare during quiet time. Luckily he got scared and went to the teacher. They were able to blow it out. He is now going on 6 and still clearly remembers this and remembers the conversation that only food goes in your mouth. Nothing else should be put in anyplace.

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

My boy is not a nose bandit, but my cousin has SIX. Actually, to be fair there is some suspicion that the youngest did not stick that bean up his own nose but the other five were all guilty of their own nasal indiscretions. :rotfl2:
