I used to work for a company that served a suburb of Atlanta. Just so you have some perspective, here is what we charged: For all work (at our office, at a residence, at a business in town, and for a business out of town), we charged $75 an hour. For in town (think inside the county), we charged a $35 service/travel charge. For people out of town, the service/travel charge was calculated based on distance. We would provide hard quotes, but those rates were usually for larger jobs.
So, here's my usual advice when I get your question. Ask around... I guarantee someone you know can recommend a computer guy or a local business. I tend to steer people away from retail chain stores and their computer services. I've found that they tend to be very hit or miss; when they are in the "miss" category, good luck getting your money back or even finding anyone in the store that will honestly listen to you and get your problem fixed. Local Mom & Pop businesses rely much more on word of mouth and are going to be more likely to want to help.
