DS had his iPhone in a cell phone holder on the dash of his work truck. He hit a big pothole while driving on the on-ramp to the DVP and the cell phone holder broke and his iPhone flew out the window and smashed into pieces. He went to Rogers last night and they told him it would cost $550.00 plus tax to replace the phone. DD and I are going to WDW in 2 weeks. My question is, would it be possible for us to buy him a new iPhone while we are there without having it activated? Will he be able to get it activated with his phone number when we get home? Will it be any less expensive to do it this way?

I dont know whether it would be less expensive or not but any phone would work with Rogers that is unlocked, just have to pop in the sim card. What about the SIM card! he will have to get a new one?

He doubled back and found that because of the heavy traffic he couldn't stop to pick up any of the pieces. He is so upset. He just got the phone after Christmas and is locked into a contract. If he can't afford to replace the phone he will be paying on a contract that he can't use.

he needs a new SIM for sure. Then he could use it in any phone which is unlocked or try ebay and check for prices you might get lucky and find a cheap used one as well

I forgot about the sim card. Thanks for reminding me. It wasn't worth having an accident or worse, getting killed, to stop on the on ramp to find the sim card.

Sorry to hear about the phone, that's crummy. Maybe your son can get one rom Craiglist or eBay. If you do buy one from the US, you'll have to get it unlocked.

Btw, where was the pothole - just curious so I'll know to be on the lookout.
