OT - Inspired by Maid thread - how long & how do you clean your bathroom

Wow...you people are amazing.

Granted I'm in college with my own bathroom so I'm less inclined to feel grossed out by it since it's just my own body's mess...kwim?

I clean when it bothers me, which is far less than it probably "should" be, but not enough to make it a hazard of any kind. Also obviously if someone is coming over I clean. Just because I'm cool with my own soap skum doesn't mean they have to be!

I use Windex on my mirror and faucets and stuff to shine them pretty. There isn't much ventilation and the Lysol spray stuff hurts my eyes if I'm in there scrubbing it, so I use Bon Ami or similar powder cleanser on my bath and in my sink then get in there with a giant bristle brush and a toothbrush for the edges. My shower head is detachable so I can use that to scrub.

I do use a clorox wand which is awesome, I'd hate having an icky brush sitting there. And I use clorox wipes to do the edges of the sink and any other surfaces that get not pretty. I will just use a clorox wipe or two on my floor as it's pretty small, and as I said, just me. Between vacuuming and wiping up most of what I have with a wipe I haven't had to run a mop through there in a while. I take out the rugs and shake them on occassion, and generally wash them with the seasons.

I also take my shoes at the door so vacuuming doesn't have to happen as often with nobody tracking dirt around.

I am seriously grossed out by the thought of a toilet brush sitting in solution on the floor :scared:

I have 3 bathrooms in my house. I wipe down the countertops on Monday and Friday just with a wet washcloth which then goes in the laundry. On Wednesday, the routine is:

- squirt toilet bowl cleaner in each toilet
- spray bathroom cleaner into shower and bathtub
- Windex mirrors and faucets
- Fill a bucket with hot water and a little Lysol
- Use a rag and the hot water to wash down countertops, light switches, doorknobs, outside of toilet, the tub, and the shower
- Use a brush to scrub out the toilet
- Use the rag to wash the floors and the baseboards

About once a month, I purge the cabinets and wipe them down and wash the rugs as well.

Mr. Clean eraser = just add water. I make my bleach solution right in my laundry room (but it's on the first floor). Nothing gets my shower cleaner than it does.

I love the magic erasers. I use them for everything!!! including cleaning the tub and shower. they even got wallpaper glue off the wall when nothing else worked!!! :goodvibes

OP here, Wow thanks for all the replies. It is interesting to read what 'everybody' else does. It's funny to read that people think I'm borderline OCD and others think I'm not doing enough. What every works for you...

Had to comment on the Magic Eraser - they are wonderful, but I don't like the residue they leave esp on walls. I find I need to rinse to get the powdery film off so don't use them everywhere, everytime - just for the grimy stuff. And they don't work on my shower door for some reason. But they clean beautifully walls, baseboards, doors & textured tub/shower floors.

We have one full bath and one half-bath and I clean them every Saturday Morning. It takes me a total of 20 mins in each one.

I wipe every thing down (toilet, sink, mirrors, any surface other than the tub) with a vinegar solution. I then use a clorox wand to scrub the inside of the toilet. I use scrubbing bubbles on the tub and shower doors. In the full bath I use a swiffer wet to clean the floors. In the half-bath which has carpet I vacuum.

By keeping up with it there is no time for grim to build up.

Some items I use:

Dryer sheets on shower doors - cuts right through soap and hard water staines
Newspaper to clean glass and mirrors - doesn't leave any lint.

I have a question for you super cleaners out there. My shower has a plastic base that has raised tread to keep you from slipping. I can't seem to keep it clean. I scrub it with soft scrub with bleach and a brush and it is never completely clean. Does anyone have suggestions? I have heard that Barkeepers Friend works well but wanted to get more opinions.

Thanks - Lorrie:)

Uhh yeah. The cleaning gene definitely skipped a generation. I clean when the mood strikes and the kids are quiet... which basically means once in a blue moon. It's not gross or anything, I just wipe up when need be and it's not too bad.
