I know this isn't site appropriate, so please forgive me! I'm taking a spur of the moment trip to Indy next week with the kids. I got an awesome deal on a hotel downtown. We are going to hit up the zoo and museum while we are there. Does anybody have any recommendations for non-chain restaurants in Indy that are kid friendly? We are staying Wednesday through Friday.

Indy is super cool! You should check out the capitol building. My husband and I wandered into it and this random man came up to us and said "hello! my name is mitch daniels, governor of Indiana" I thought he must have been some nut, but then I saw his security team, and realized that we did in fact just meet the governor of Indiana! He chatted with us for a little while, it was fun.

My husband work in politics in MI and he has never even met OUR governor! He was pretty excited.

In terms of restaurants we liked the weber grill restaurant, which is a chain, but there are only a few of them in big cities.

Thanks! We will have to check out Weber. Their menu looks very yummy. It is literally around the corner from our hotel. My kids love being able to walk to dinner. Very cool about the Governor.

You might want to give Acapulco Joe's a try. Very good Mexican food. It can get crowded; especially around lunch time.

Hello,

I would also recommend the Spaghetti factory for kids. If your kids are adventurous eaters there are some good ethnic places as well - Greek Islands, Aesops table, Saffron Cafe. yum

Enjoy your trip!

This is a definite possibility. We are lucky to have some great family run Mexican restaurants in the Evansville area. Yum! My plan is to hit the zoo for a few hours, then grab lunch at an off time anyway. It looks like this one is within walking distance too. Thanks for the suggestion!

We love the Spaghetti factory. It is was just me and my son, we would be all over Saffron. Their menu looks wonderful. My girl is so picky! It drives me up a wall. Thanks for the suggestions!

I was also going to suggest Spaghetti Factory...it's one of our favorites!! :)

I would check out the website www.indy.com for more info about the area. If you have a car, the Indianapolis Museum of Art just open a 100 acre outdoor art park where kids can play and interact with the sculptures and it's FREE.

That sounds cool and I love FREE! I used to drive through Indy all the time on the way to the race track in Anderson, but I didn't get to enjoy what Indy has to offer. I will have have a car, so traveling is no biggie. Thanks for the info.

Plan on LOTS of time at the Children's Museum! It is HUGE and VERY AWESOME!!!!
