Let's see if this posts this time. :)

Sept is Train Month at Toy R Us. They've got lots of sets (Thomas, Brio and Imaginarium) for BOGO 50% off. And 25% off buildings, books, and stuff. If you shop online, they're offering free shipping for train toys too.

DD's been asking for these for months, but I've been putting it off since they're so darn expensive. Actually I think one set will be a gift from the new baby and one will be saved for Christmas. :flower:

What a great deal. We bought a train table with 100 pieces from Sam's club. It gave us all the basic track pieces and we bought the Thomas and Brio pieces to go with it.

It is worth it to get the more expensive ones that you can add to. DS started our collection when he was little, now DD has played with them and we have added on to the set. If we had started with the "off" brand we may not have been able to continue to add to them for so long. We have the Thomas set. (As a side note, if she really loves Thomas, he has a web site. We got to ride on Thomas in Branson this summer too.)

We have been adding to our off brand set for 5 years. We found that all the track pieces (Brio, Thomas and the off brand) worked together. We have the Thomas Mountain from the movie and Brio tunnels. The boys love the battery opperated Thomas train engines. They have now outgrown the train table and need the whole living room floor for their train creations. Thanks to the off brand set they have more than enough track pieces to build forever.

We love the Thomas trains. DS started with the Figure 8 set and Figure 8 Expansion set, plus a couple of extra trains for his second birthday. Since then, he's gotten more trains, tracks and bridges for many Christmases and birthdays. He keeps his pieces in his toy box and pulls them out to make different layouts -- which take up the better part of one room.

A couple of hints: run a search on Froogle or Yahoo Shopping to check for the best price on sets/pieces and consider buying the videos/dvds that include a train (for about the same price as just buying the train) -- I bought a lot at Sam's Club, but recently saw more at Walmart.

I don't mean to highjack your thread but... If you've got a Costco nearby they carry a super-nice train table with two trundle drawers underneath (TONS of storage) and a train set. It is only $129 and this thing is huge! It's just like the one on the onestepahead site but instead of primary colors it is a natural wood color or maybe all white. They go fast - long story short - they sold out of them in our area so we had to order the one from onestepahead and paid around $300. Still the best $300 I've spent for my train loving boy. It's now 3 years old and still looks like new after many many hours of play. Definitely worth the space it takes up. We've bought the Thomas figure 8 track w/water tower, and the engine wash, and the roundhouse since then to expand the train set. The track pieces that come with it are interchangeable with Brio/Imaginarium/Thomas track.
