We are thinking of taking our just turned 4 yo to see this movie this weekend for her bday. Has anyone seen it? Scary? Inappropriate? Reviews please!!

Brought my 4 year old DS on opening night and we all thought it was a GREAT movie. He actually asked if we could go again the next day before we were even out of the theater :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We went yesterday with DS(4) and we all loved it. The theatre was full of kids. DS didn't find it scary at all and has been asking to play dragons all day and to look at the website (we showed it to him before we went). We didn't see it in 3D because it was sold out but I am sure DS would still have still loved it (he has seen other 3D movies).

OK, I'm laughing at the commonsense review that says it's somewhat educational because your kid will learn about Vikings. I'm pretty sure that real Vikings don't have much in common with the characters of this movie, but maybe I'm mistaken. Did real Vikings spend a lot of time fighting dragons?

I went to see it with my 11 year old and his friend. We thought it was great. I think it would have been to much for my particular 4 year old, who often found movies on the big screen overwhelming. It's very fast paced and visually stimulating, and involves a lot of scenes where children are in mortal peril from dragons. On the other hand, if you have a kid who has enjoyed other fast paced action movies on the big screen I'd say go ahead and try it out. There's nothing really innappropriate, just a little intense.

The other thing we thought was weird was that other than the names of a few characters this movie had almost nothing in common with the book. We loved the books so that was a little weird, but once we decided to overlook that we loved the movie too.

And of course, they'll learn all about Vikings!

I took my 5 and 9 yr old to see it in 3D this weekend. My 9 yr old (who has Aspergers and sensory issues) had to take off his glasses and look away during the scary parts with the "big" dragon. He is very sensitive though. My DD5 loved it though! And asked to see it again next weekend.

If it wasn't in 3D I would say go for it as long as they are used to seeing high action movies. The 3D is much more intense so I would say if you are worried I might avoid it? I even got a little dizzy with some of the flying parts (I get that way on Soarin though too. lol.)

DS6 & DD5 both really liked it and so did myself and DH. There is maybe a few parts some may consider a little scarry, but I just asked them and they said it was not scarry at all. If you are going to see it in 3D do you think she would leave the glasses on or not? If not I would skip the 3D. Hope you enjoy the movie.

We saw it yesterday- 3D and IMAX. That was awesome- but $15.00 each/ We took my nephew-9yo and my daughter-7yo. Both loved it and DH and I both thought it was good too.

Took DGS (3) this week-end. It was more intense than I thought it would be but he LOVED it. Was not scared at all. No way educational but had some good underlying value lesson tied in.

Saw it over the weekend and both DH and I were suprised how much we liked it. I don't know that I'd recommend it for a child that young. But I do think its good enough that if you go see it first and decide to take your child, you'll be happy to go again.

My DD 4, who is pretty easily frightened in movies, had to cover her eyes and sit on my lap briefly toward the end, but she enjoyed it overall and has said she would like to see it again. My older kids were not afraid at all and enjoyed it very much.

Definitely NOT informative about real Vikings...LOL...but it had a nice message about trying to understand things before condemning them. It was very light on objectionable language--I really appreciated that!

We saw the 2D version to save some bucks and also because I thought it might be too intense for DD in 3D. I think that was a good choice.

We took our boys to see it on Easter. They are 7, 4, and 16 months. We loved it! We saw it in IMAX 3D and the detail was amazing. It takes a lot for my DH to really praise a kid movie and this one he really enjoyed.

We saw on Monday night, not in 3D, w/ our DD who is not quite 3 and she really enjoyed it. She did not find it scary and did very well through it. Although she did ask several times where the Chipmunks were. The Squeakquel was the last movie she saw in the theatre :)

It's more emotionally intense than scary. The dragons are actually very cute and cuddly looking. There main bad-guy dragon is not so much...but I don't think it would scare the average preschooler.

My kids loved this movie...it was the best movie we've seen in a long time!

LOL...um, yeah, funny how the Vikings had a variety of Scottish and other accents...and they seemed to be short on women in their society....

Oh, they had plenty of women - they just looked and dressed like men. The women were the ones with the longer beards. :D

We took our DS9 & DS3 this past weekend and they both LOVED it! We really enjoyed it too - I even cried!!! Hiccup reminded me of my DS9 so much! DS3 had no problems and wasn't scared even a bit. He did take his glasses off here and there, but he was wearing them during the big battle scene.

I took my kids and my nephew *he's 3 and a 1/2* the day it came out - we went to the drive in :thumbsup2 All 3 of them and I enjoyed it.
