For all those cross-border shoppers, I'm looking for an inexpensive hotel to stay overnight on a girls shopping spree. We're planning on going to Target and the outlet mall in Niagara Falls. Not sure if we'll even end up in Buffalo.

Also, if we went early Sat morning and returned late Sunday, does that only count for the $50 allowance, or do you get bumped up to the $200 allowance?

By the letter of the law, your stay will only count for a $50 allowance (and, if you exceed $50, there is no allowance). You must stay 48 hours to get a $200 exemption.

However, it is rare you would have to pay duty if your purchases are under approx $100 (and exclude alcohol or tabacco). If you buy alcohol or tobacco (and are not out of the country for 48 hours), expect to pay duty and taxes.

When the mood strikes........ ;)

This is the shopping plan that I follow.

I start by going to the Walden Galleria Mall. Go over to Burlington Coat Factory. Head over the bridge to Target. Back over the bridge towards Transit Road. Shop along Transit Road until I turn onto Sheridan Drive (sometimes I hit the Walmart before I turn). There is a Travelodge but can't remember the addy but there is a Burger King across the street (Bailey and Main?) Spend the night and then in the morning continue along Sheridan and continue on shopping until I get to the Niagara Falls Outlets. Along this route is the Eastern Hills Mall, Symms, Boulevard Mall and Big Lots! There are a lot of strip malls along this route. There is also a Country Style Buffet which is nice for dinner or the Cracker Barrel.

Then it's home either across thru Niagara Falls and if time permits, go to the Canadian Outlet Mall or thru Lewiston back home!

Which malls do you go to? Where are they? Where is Target?

I've only been once with an organized bus, but we went through Niagara Falls to the closest Target, and then to the Outlet Mall, then onto Galleria. I don't think I want to do Galleria again because it was just like a mall here. The Outlet mall was great, especially if you have kids. --great Old Navy, CHildren's Place, Carters, etc. at deep-discounted prices.

Here's a map of those two places:

Thanks for the advice from the previous poster. I'll have to look into that route :thumbsup2
