Wow--I was looking at my daughter's stuff remaining to do--Math is nearly 2/3's through and everything else we are flying and Kindergarten will soon be *sniffle* over.
Our homeschool group is doing a Kindergarten graduation and b/c this year so many seniors are graduating, the celebration night will be extra special. I can just pretend it is for my little scholar though, right?
My group fascinates me--some things irritate me though, don't get me wrong--but they have a Prom and a graduation and a whole host of things--so it will be funny to be able to have rebuttals like...."but what about prom"--no worries there...on the calendar for as soon as she turns about 14 or 15 (all the older kids regardless of grade get to go).
So---recapping our year..what worked and what didn't work:
Math-U-See--worked. Though our Nov/Dec break slowed me down...my daughter does enjoying it. We will be getting the next lessons.
Scaredy Cat Phonics--worked, but was annoying. It is a great program--lots of repetitiveness and a lot of busy work. The busy work is intended to be used in addition to games and stuff--but lots of prep work and stuff, just not my cup of tea. The program was designed by an LD teacher--and it is fantastic. But my daughter wanted to hurry up and read and it was hard for me to break the "but we haven't finished xyz yet"--when she's ready to move onto the next section. It is a good program, but we will not get the second level. I have picked up after a couple of years debating--the 100 easy lessons. We are doubling up the lessons for her (she can already read some books on her own)--and this will hopefully make her a strong reader. My 3yo wants to read--so we will do the lessons slowly with her. I was amazed she followed the first lesson--but not sure if she got it. We shall see.
Those were my two main programs. We had the syllabus from Mother of Divine Grace School (we are catholic)--we enjoyed the Poetry---Harp and Laurel Wreath is excellent. My daughter is memorizing big poems and little poems and she loves it! We also enjoyed the bible stories they had us use--I think the Golden Chidlren's bible. We had 2 sketch pads from Rainbow Resource Center--space to draw a picture and then lines to write what it is (I do the writing--she dictates). We have her "bible"--gotta love that Dora the Explorer and Diego did join Adam and Eve in the Garden. Captured forever
. She also does a poetry book---and draws a picture for the poems once memorized.
I was lax on all the art stuff--I'm just plain lazy!!!
Next year I will keep mornings completely free--Friday is our co-op day. Last semester I was working on Tuesday mornings and it was very disruptive to our routine--so no morning scedulings!
Extra-curriculars
Dance--must keep
Tumbling/Gymnastics-must keep
Soccer--must add (dd wanted to play this year and I just never got to get her signed up, so I promised this year)
Art--thinking of adding a class elsewhere. Call me crazy--but artistic I ain't, so I might outsource to someone who is.
Music--Had the bright idea to teach her Piano myself---
So will be on the hunt for a music instructor.
I think that about covers it.
Feel free to sum up your year (even though it isn't over yet)--can help others in looking for curriculum and such.
