An interactive World's Fair aimed at children and families will be from April 15 to 23 at the Orange County Convention Center.
The World's Fair for Kids 2006 will feature an interactive "theme park" of activities that will entertain and educate during a nine-day period, organizers said.
Developed in partnership with the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Orlando World's Fair for Kids 2006 is the cornerstone event of the 2006 Orlando Family Spring Break, the new family equivalent to the phenomena of College Spring Break, and will be housed in 500,000 square feet of the Orange County Convention Center.
"Education and entertainment is the focus of the World's Fair for Kids," said Renee Unell, public relations director for the World's Fair for Kids, based in Cary, N.C. "It's focusing on families and things you can do that are interactive with the family. This is the first year of a 10-year run in Orlando."
Among the sponsors are Lego, Radio Disney, National Geographic Kids, Family Fun magazine, the U.S. Postal Service, Kellogg's, Avis and Amtrak.
During the fair, sponsors will participate in various capacities by presenting special interactive and educational experiences.
"As a father and kid's marketer, my vision for the Orlando World's Fair for Kids 2006 was to create a large-scale event focused on families," Brian Sockin, the event's creator and executive producer, said in a statement. "Combining this vision with the original mission of the first World's Fair, every aspect of the Orlando World's Fair for Kids 2006 is designed to enlighten and inspire kids and their families to explore things around them and to imagine the potential they have in this world."
"As the recognized 'Family Vacation Capital' of the world, Orlando is the perfect host for such a phenomenal event," said Bill Peeper, president of the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau. "With this World's Fair, we hope to further solidify Orlando as the Family Spring Break destination of choice."
