I know this is not the right board but I posted this on the photo board and got little response. I am hoping has some expertise in this areas.

I have a HandyCam DCR-DVD105. I have made some family videos and finalized the disc. I inserted it into my new HP desktop (there is a place to put the disc in the DVD drive) and it will play my movies with Media Player. I don't want to watch movies on my computer. I want to make cute little movies for my blog using Movie Maker. I downloaded HandBrake and can't figure it out. I downloaded E.M. DVD Copy and it will copy it and convert it to a wmv file but when I put it in Movie Maker...the quality is awful. It has lines going through it horizontally and makes a very grainy or "too digital-like" picture. What am I doing wrong?? I know this isn't that hard...everyone is doing this online on YouTube or their blogs....HELP!

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 and have had problems using Windows Movie Maker 2 (MM2) to make movies. The main prblem is trying to figure out which codec you need to be able to decode the MPEG file that is on the disc. If you are set on using MM2, you can try the following things:

- Download and install the full codec pack from Microsoft: DOWNLOAD HERE (For Windows XP, click the button for Windows 2000)

OR

- I found this solution in the comments of this page:
First, using Picture Motion Browser, select “Video trimming” under the “Manipulate” menu.

Second, edit out a least one second of the video clip your interested in and then save as a new mpeg.

Then import this mpeg into Movie Maker. From here it can be turned into a movie and saved as a .wmv file.

I’ve found that it doesn’t work unless you shave off a least one second of the original mpeg file.
I personally have not tried this method before.

Otherwise, I gave up and ended up purchasing the latest Nero software. It has more options for video editing and I have no problems editing the movie files from the Handycam.

Hope this helps!
