OT - Help needed from moms of 4yo boys

Sorry for being so off topic, but I am mom to a DD(3) and am surrounded only by little girls!

My DD has birthday party to go to Sunday for a little boy turning 4. What's "cool" for little boys these days (they're not a Disney family)?

My son is six now but I have had the same problem since he was 3. I don't have brothers or anything and didn't babysit for many families with boys. One thing that my son loves to give are cheap walkie talkies. You can get them at Walmart for like $10-$15. I have met a boy yet who doesn't have fun with those.

I have a 5 year old. Superhero stuff is always good, and it is very popular these days. Lego blocks are also pretty popular and universally liked. Hope that helps!

I have a 4 year old boy and superheros are HUGE!!! They also like race cars and role play stuff (police, fire, superheros).

The Rescue Heros are really popular in my house, especially the fire fighter ones. Hot wheels are very popular, legos and lincoln logs are very popular. For us, anything Disney is very popular, too--especially if it came from Toy Story.

Also, not necessarily for just boys, my 4 yr old DS loves arts and crafts stuff and books.

DS 3 and a half loves any type of car. Hotwheels, matchbox, etc... Also, DS loves anything that has to do with Disney/Pixar Cars. He can play with those cars forever! Rescue heros, sticker books, Thomas the train are also very popular in this house! DS loves playing with the Thomas the tank take along sets.

Cars cars and more cars-..they have to be hotwheels unless they are from the CARS movie then he'll settle. Anything that makes noise and has wheels works also. But the little hotwheels cars are his favorite-- he plays with them for hours- lining them up, putting them into categories, having construction areas.....all good boy things. He really isn't into lego yet. He likes the resue guys, computer games and blocks.

here at my house the big favorites are leggos, construction trucks and outdoor toys. Rescue Heros and Ninja Turtles are also popular with his friends.

My boys (8, 6 and almost 4) all love Rescue Heros (and lots of times you get a free DVD with them) They are also big Star Wars fans. My olders like the transformers that are new, that are star wars related and my almost 4 year old likes the chunkier star wars action figures (I can't think who makes them, but at walmart and target they are in the action figures section, with the regular star wars action figures) A viewmaster is always a great gift in my opinon too.

Every child is different. DS5 outgrew cars by the time he was 4. Never was a superhero or lego kid (that's DS2). Thomas has been a huge hit since he was 15 months old. Still loves it. Rescue Heros are good, but at 5 he's outgrowing them. Puzzles have always been a hit, especially the 3-d ones. And you can't go wrong with FLOAM. And dinosaurs are a small, actually huge, obession, as is Star Wars & Pirates of the Caribean toys.

My ds is 5. He loves Power Rangers, legos, Gears and Thomas. He also likes to play with a toy kitchen with dishes.

My boys are 6. They have never been really big on cars. Hotwheel stuff gets played with once and then collects dust. Spiderman was big with them from ages 3-4, but of course that's when #2 was released. Now their big obsession is Star Wars and that started about age 4. They are currently bugging for the SW Transformers, which would be appropriate for 4+ as are any of the action figures. They also loved building toys like Legos and Lincoln Logs. They also liked card and board games that didn't require reading. Don't Wake Daddy and the Cadoo games are their favorites. They still play them now even though they can read. Nerf toys are also popular with my boys and most of their friends.

I think it depends on the boy. Mine is really really big into trucks (like 18 wheelers, big rigs, transfer trucks whatever you call them in your area of the world). We have passed the tractors, monster trucks, and anything else with wheels for the moment. Fire trucks are still a big hit too but it's big trucks for my little guy (you can find lots of them around at Walmart and places). I will warn you though, most aren't the best made toys around so if there is a younger sibling you might want to be careful.

My boys, ages 6 and 2, like much of what's already been mentioned. Superheros, Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars, construction vehicles, police/firefighter/army dress up outfits and vehicles, Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, Pirates. Also Buzz Lightyear, The Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean (even though he's never seen either movie.)

Toys they seem to play with the most are the cars, video games (we just bought DS6 a Leapster L-Max for his birthday) and army stuff. They don't actually have Army stuff, DS6 wears my snow boots, his backpack, his bike helmet or safari type hat, and carries a tube like it's a rifle. We try not to have those kinds of toys around, but he's very imaginative. DS2 follows suit.

I haven't read all any of the replies, but my answer is "Power Rangers". It seems to me that every little boy in preschool loves them!!

Those cheap little plastic army men. My boys were obssessed with them at that age. The oldest received them as a gift when he turned 3 or 4, and they played with those things until about middle school (of course, alternating how they played).

You can get sets at Target/Walmart that include vehicles and such and then dollar stores have plenty of extra men in decent size packages in light green, dark green, gray, dark brown & tan.

My almost 4 yr old DS loves puzzles, books, art supplies, and GeoTrax. He wants a drumset and camera for his bday. He and his friends aren't interested in superhero type things for some reason.

Also, be sure to keep in mind the ages of any siblings because you don't want to buy something that is a choking hazard for the other family members.

Oh, good grief YES! DH bought a tub of these to play a prank at work, and when it was all over, he brought them home for DS, who was 5yo at the time. I have been stepping on them and vacuuming them for over a year now! They are all over the house. DS lines them up on the headboard of his bed when he goes to sleep, and even sleeps with one in his hand. He makes up stories about each one. One looked like he was injured and lying down, and DS said, "Mama, you know what he's doing?"

Oh, dear, what do I say? "Um, no, what is he doing?" and DS said, "He is taking a rest at the pool, and then he's going to go swimming." Oh, thank goodness!
