Congratulations on your upcoming arrival!!
I think it really does depend on your last name, your cultural background, a lot of other things.
When naming our kids, here are a few things we kept in mind:
- potential nicknames. I love Gabrielle, but hate Gabby. So no Gabrielle for us.
- ease of pronounciation. We're both teachers, and have had our share of names we've struggled to say. I always feel so bad for my kids when I have difficulty learning to say their names. I wanted names that their teachers, and preschool classmates could say.
- Monogram... you want to make sure it's nothing that will cause them grief.
- run on words. My niece wanted Amanda Lynne, until she realized that, said quickly, it became "a mandolin."
- history. My son is adopted from Korea. The name he arrived with is his middle name. We kept it because it's a part of his identity.
What we ended up doing for my older daughter was going through the name book. I made a list of first names I could live with and middle names I could live with, then passed the list on to my husband. He made the choice from there. Funny, but we had no problem with the other two.
