I bought one of the boxed de-boned turkeys to try this year. I have been buying the frozen pre-stuffed turkeys for several years and find them quite good.

Well, I've got even lazier  and have decided to try the totally de-boned one and it has cranberry stuffing.

It says 8 - 12 servings on the box and I was just wondering whether that would be plenty for 10 people.

Has anyone tried one?

Well, is it the one that comes in a green box, maybe butterball?
I got one last year with my Chrisco Christmas Hamper and it was terriffic....really good. I know they sell them at walmart for about 16-20 $.
I get my chrisco hamper this wednesday so I can't wait to have that Thursday night for dinner.!!

Last Easter we bought 2 butterball stuffed turkey breasts. I swore I would never do it but I did and were they ever delish! We are leaving for holidays on the 18th and we are having Christmas dinner on the 17th with the same stuffed turkey breasts again! I did the 25 pound full turkey meal at Thanksgiving so if I have the time I do it but those little shortcuts are sure great!

This is the whole de-boned turkey in a box. It's President's Choice and I bought it at Zehrs, $39.99

I've also tried the Butterball turkey breasts and white and dark meat mixture in the box a few times and thought they were great. This is why I thought I'd try to whole de-boned turkey this time. I love not having to contend with the bones.

Having JUST cooked a Turkey-I wish I had read this a few days sooner!
I hate the carving and cutting and separating it all...and the kitchen after..ugh
And now-I need a nap.

I was skeptical but tried one at Thanksgiving because we were a small group. I used the stuffed one and we all loved it. My kids thought the stuffing was better than my homemade one. It was very convenient in that you took it right out of the freezer and put it into the oven frozen and cooked it for 4 hours. However, we had no leftovers and no I don't think it would serve 8 to 10. I'll definitely be using this product again. Oh, after Thanksgiving they were on sale at my local Sobey's for half price so I bought 3 and have them in my freezer.

We have had the PC one many times. It is fantastic and idiot proof. We always find we over cook a fresh bird because we are worried that it's not cooked through. Since trying the PC 'bird in a box' it will always be our first choice if our gathering is small enough.

Yes, it says on the box it will feed 8-10 people. Is that enough??? really depends on how much people eat and how many side dishes you have. I will only get it if we are have a max of 6 adults because we like to have lots of left overs. If you are not big on the left overs it's safe to serve 8 adults and 2-4 kids as long as you have 3 sides or more.

Thank God an idiot proof turkey. I will buy one and try it out.

Being a young single Mom of 2 munchkins DS6 DD2 with absolutely no extended family Ive always skimped on dinner because I was terrified of the whole turkey thing this year I decided to attempt the big dinner. )think i was also afraid it would make me miss my Mom more etc..)

Thanks guys..Ill let ya know after Xmas if i succeed..lol

I think I will pick up a boxed frozen turkey breast as well just to be on the safe side. I really don't know, without trying it once, how far the whole de-boned turkey will go and we are all adults so adding the breast should be okay.

It's pricey doing it this way, but I really, really hate dealing with the mess of leftover turkey with bones, and any leftovers will take up far less room in my fridge. And carving with ease is a major bonus!

Let us know how you made out with your turkey dinner, TammyLynn33. I think you will find it very successful using the frozen turkeys. I love not having to worry about cleaning the bird and stuffing it. It's bit cheaper if you want to try the frozen, pre-stuffed whole turkeys that are not in a box (Butterball, PC) which you cook from frozen and there's very little prep required.

I must be the odd one out here. My MIL makes a PC "boxed" turkey every year and I'm not a fan. If you're not the type of person who likes to cook then I can understand the "easy" factor here.

IMO nothing beats a fresh turkey, and they're so simple to cook. If you're worried about cooking it properly those "turkey poppers" are great (but hard to find).

I have to agree with the poster above.......we tried the PC turkey when they first came out and I was so glad we tried it before Christmas and we were very disappointed with it's taste. Even the friends we had over for dinner that night didn't care for the taste either.I would have been really upset if I had served the PC turkey for our Christmas dinner.Mind you they may be better tasting now but tihs was when they first came out quite a few years ago.:)

I really like the M & M meats stuffed turkey breast. I think that is the way we will do Christmas dinner this year, as I hate the mess of a whole bird... Did it at Thanksgiving and swore it was off to M&M meats this Christmas for me! LOL:thumbsup2

I ALWAYS use the M&M stuffed breast. Obviously, no waste at all, and the leftovers are perfect for the two of us......
Before, with the full bird, we had a second turkey dinner, turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, then turkey soup. I was ready to shoot myself.
This way, we can get one, maybe two more meals out of it.
