I'm seriously considering throwing DH a surprise 30th birthday party. It's not until January so I have plenty of time to plan, but I've never done it before...

We'd have it at a park away from home, and I've worked out roughly how we'd get him there. What else do I need to remember?

I know I need to work out getting power to the site, and providing lighting, music etc.

There should be BBQs at the park, but we can take ours just incase.

What? Where? How? When? Why? :confused3

You might have to contact the council - you might need permission.

But sounds like fun!

And January is such a nice time of year for outdoor parties!

Conscript selected family and friends to help. Pick at least 3 or 4 that can be trusted to keep the secret and that are completely dependable to get the little jobs done...like getting a generator to the site and remembering to bring the food.

Sounds like a great secret to have.

Are your family/friends musical? You could ask them to bring their instruments along and play something.

Sounds like a great idea! I also think that asking a few trusted families and friends for some support, as it may be hard doing all by yourself.

Make sure you send out save the dates/ invites in plenty of time. I am planning on hosting a surprise party (but have a couple of years to go lol).

plan a surprise party for "a friend" or "your parents 40th wedding anniversary" etc and get him involved.
then you don't have to be too careful.....:goodvibes

Haven't organised one myself but i had one thrown for me :)

Work out a way of letting people know where to park their cars so that DH won't see them before the big "surprise" .

What I'm planning on doing is getting my BIL to invite DH out for a days fishing at one of our local lakes/dams. They'd head out to the lake around 6am. Which would give me heaps of time to get ready.

I'd tell all our friends and family to meet at one of the public BBQ areas at the lake around 12pm. DH and BIL would come in off the water for lunch around 12:30-1pm and we'd be there to surprise him. :goodvibes

I've got the basics worked out, it's just the nitty gritty and the stuff that I don't know about that I still need to work out :confused3 :rotfl:

There are cabins and stuff out at the lake, but DH's birthday is during school holidays and there's a 7 day minimum during that time, which won't suit us. However it's less then half an hour away, so we can just come home afterwards.

I'm just going to have to find out where relatives and friends can stay, because a lot of them will need to travel, and obviously they can't stay with us before the party  I was hoping they could all stay out at the lake... They still can, but they'd probably have to camp... :scared:

Its not going to be during the Country Music Awards is it?

I guess you would have thought of that - Tamworth must be crazy at that time!

lol, this year it's before the country music festival so I don't have to worry about that, but it's still peak season for the lake :headache:
