We are thinking about visiting Myrtle Beach next May with our (then to be) 4 year old daughters. We will most likely also invite my in-laws to join us. Does anyone have a suggestion for accomodations? It seems like it is mostly condos on the beach. We would like something on the ocean that is centrally located, but is kid-friendly.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!:)

We own a condo at the Myrtle Beach Resort. It is located at the south end of Mytle Beach, between Myrtle Beach and Surfside Beach. The resort has several buildings, 3 of which are on the ocean. It has 4 or 5 pools, a "water park" (really just a splash zone type area, but also has a lazy river), and on-site restaurants.

I would highly recommend Kingston Plantation.
It's centrally located in Myrtle Beach, near Barefoot Landing.
There are numerous types of places to stay w/in the resort-- hotels, condos, villas. There is even a water park w/ one of those big buckets.
You can check it out at www.kingstonplantation.com
We stayed at the Hilton's Royale Palms. You have to book that directly thru Hilton.com. That place was beautiful! We had a HUGE 2 bdrm. condo, w/ full kitchen, living room w/ flat screen tv, granite everything!! It was great. But I'm pretty sure the price has gone up since last summer.

We go to MB at least once a year, for the past 10 years. This was by far the best place we have been to.
Good luck!

We are actually heading to MB early August. Any suggestions on things to do with young children. 3 yr old DD, and by then a 1 yr old DS. It will also be our anniversary, and we will be traveling with the grandparents. Any suggestions on places for us to visit without the kids?

If you dont have to be on the ocean Why not try a campground. We go to pirateland alot and the kids love it. Planned activities all day, pool, lazy river, crafts, golf carts, playground, arcade ect.. you could get a nice 2 bedroom vacation home

I second the Myrtle Beach Resort condos. I've been staying there since I was a kid. Now that I'm grown with kids, we go back often throughout each year. There are two indoor pools and an almost new lazy river that is perfect for May.

I have heard really good things about MB Resort as well. It looks like it would be a nice place to stay. I have also heard good things about Sea Mist Resort.
It has been years since I lived there though, so there may be even more places.

If you plan to go in May, I suggest that you research beforehand. The two motorcycle weeks/weekends bring in a major influx of people, and both are in May. From what I have gathered, the first one is quite spread out around the area, not just in MB (traffic spread out thinner over a larger area), and the one held around Memorial Day seems to bring guests primarily into Myrtle Beach (traffic thicker in a smaller area). Also, as with many large, mainly adult centered events, there may be some behavior, dress , and language that might be deemed by some inappropriate for their families.

You didn't say, so you may be going for one of the Bike Weeks, if so, HAVE FUN!!:thumbsup2 But if not, I just didn't want you to go in unaware.

Caribbean Resort!!!

The Caribbean Resort is oceanfront and located in Myrtle Beach. It is very family friendly, in a nice, quieter section.

The new Cayman Towers section has 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms, (and they're gorgeous). The suites are huge, so your parents could share with you, have their own bedroom and you'll still have some privacy. You'll also have your own washer/dryer, and 2 or more baths, several TV's, and a full kitchen.

The Dominican section has 1 bedroom suites, it you perfer to have separate accommodations.

They have lots of indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs and lazy rivers.

When we travel to the beach, I always stay directly on the ocean... with small children needing to use the bathroom, and all the beach gear you have to tote, it is a lot easier than walking or driving to the beach.

Check it out before making any decisions - http://www.caribbeanresort.com/
I don't think you'll be disappointed. Caribbean Resort consistantly ranks very high on Tripadvisor.

Be sure to click on specials... many are a good value... stay 5 nights, get 2 free or check-in on a Sunday or Monday and save 40%, etc. Also, sign up for their email and you'll receive specials info. Also, click on accommodations, then rooms, to see the room lay-out, so you'll know what you are getting.

I forgot to add, another resort we like and it's beautiful... Island Vistas. Located in Myrtle Beach, but at the northern end of Myrtle Beach.

Very, very nice, but more expensive than the Caribbean Resort.

(I wish I could get the same type of accommodations in Disney, for my family of 7, but at Myrtle Beach prices!)

I'm only 4 hours away, so I've been 3 times this year and will be back in 2 weeks. I only stay at oceanfront/ oceanview rooms at resorts that have indoor/outdoor pools, hot tub, and lazy rivers that I find good deals at, but so far all have been decent and all kid-friendly. This time we will be staying at Dunes Village Resort, which has an indoor kiddie waterpark with waterslides, etc. Regarding bike week, its not bad at all and there are lots of free outdoor concerts, art shows, etc that week- the traffic isn't bad til you get to the old Pavilion part of Myrtle, N. Myrtle was fine.

Broadway at the Beach is a must-do. They have restaurants, free playground, old Pavilion rides, great photo-ops, lots of shops, an Imax, places kids can run through water spouts, etc. Alligator Adventure is about 3 hours of fun and somewhat educational. Medival Times (though not beach related) is an awesome show with good food. They just opened Hard Rock Park, which I've heard is awesome. Ultimate California Pizza is the best.

My two cents...:lmao:

When my dd was 3 we stayed at Sea Mist. It's a huge cluster of hotels that combined into one. Several 10+ pools/hot tubs and an onsite waterpark that is really nice with a lazy river. It had an onsite restaurant and an ice cream place. It was clean and convenient and priced budget friendly.

Good Luck. We'll be there in a week and a half:cool1: but we bought a time share last trip and are staying there.

I only live an hour away from Myrtle Beach! All the suggestions everyone have given are great places to stay. I would certainly choose my weeks carefully if you plan on going in May. The Spring Harley Rally just wrapped up. Ocean Blvd. becomes a one-way street to allow emergency vehicles a way through-it becomes very congested. The next bike rally is the Black Bikers Memorial Weekend Rally over the Memorial Day weekend. It is also a very congested time at the beach. Unless you are diehard bike fans I would avoid those weeks entirely. Myrtle Beach has it's annual Sun Fun Festival during the first week of June. Lots of activities and there's even a parade! Big tradition down at the beach. You might also want to rent a house instead of staying at a hotel or resort. There are lots of great houses to rent all along the grand strand! We love to stay at Cherry Grove-great for families! Plenty of houses to rent too! Don't forget that Hard Rock Park has just opened too! You will also want to take in one of Carolina Opry's great shows! We love their Good Vibrations Show which celebrates music from the 60's, 70's and 80's! We love Myrtle Beach and all it has to offer! Please let me know if you would like any additional information. I've been going to Myrtle Beach for over 40 years and it just keeps getting better and better! Good luck planning your trip!

Thanks so much for everyone's great replies! I have bookmarked everyone's suggestions and am looking through each. They all look great. We will definately consider our dates - it looks like May does get a little busy with the 2 bike weeks. Also, it looks like some of the attractions don't open until very late May/early June - may have to take that into consideration too.

If anyone has any suggestions for not-to-be missed attractions, please share:)

Thanks again!:thumbsup2

I second Kingston Plantation. My mom has owned a condo there since 1991 and we have loved it since. Great location and plenty of stuff for the kids to do.
