LA is wonderful!! :)

I'd go for a couple more days than 2 or 3 though.

You need at least one at Universal, a morning on the WB tour, a day at Santa Monica (which I love) a couple hours in Hollywood (you can see the sign from the mall there). I went to uni there and when I go back I stay on the hotel on campus. Search google for UCLA guest house. It's $100/night for a lovely room in a great part of LA (sandwiched between beverly hills and bel air) and the bus is right by the guest house, 20 mins one way to hollywood, 20 the other to santa monica. :)

vegas is great. my suggestion is to stay up the top end of the strip. (venetian, mirage, TI, wynn) as we really loved it up there, and ummed and ahhhed over whether to go for NYNY or MGM but were really glad we chose treasure island as we had to most breathtaking strip view room:

I only did a few months there but it was great. :)

Definitely choose TI or Mirage, we loved them both!! But the strip view rooms from the TI are what swung it for us!!

Guess what! I'm on a train!!! Yaaaaaay for mobile broadband!!

Evening guys, just dropping by quickly before my friends arrive for dinner.

Sarah, for Vegas I personally would choose a mid strip hotel, then you can easily walk to both ends. My favourite is the Bellagio, but the Paris oposite is really nice too and not as expensive. We also love the Venetian, but found it a little too far up strip if we were just staying in one hotel for the week. For Hollywood, we loved the Rennaisance (we could see the Hollywood sign from our room) which is attached to the Hollywood and Highlands centre (with the Kodak theatre where they do the oscars) and next to the walk of fame, Disney Soda Fountain, Chinese theatre etc. We did all the studio tours when we were there (Paramount, Warner Bros and Sony) plus we did the VIP tour at Universal which was great. I really enjoyed our time in Hollywood, but would probably not return. I'm definately glad we went though.

Well as I am finally home from work, by holiday has begun!! Roll on Monday and Disneyland Paris!!
