OT: Gameboy Advance or Nintendo DS Lite?

Hello :)

I bought a pink Gameboy Advance for my 6yr old dd when Walmart just had their big "sale-abration" thing going on. I paid approx. $70 for it. I know it isn't as "good" as the Nintendo, but figured that it would be good enough. Now the flyer for Zellers (starting tomorrow) has the Nintendo DS Lite on for $109. I have never seen them less than $139 ... so now I am wondering if I should return the Gameboy and pick up the Nintendo? I'm not sure if I am giving it to her for Christmas or if I am hanging onto it for her birthday in early March when she turns 7yrs.

What do you think? I know very little about video games, but if the Gameboy is going to become obsolete soon it probably isn't worth it. Is the extra money worth it for the DS Lite???

Thanks for your opinions / help!!!

Kerri

p.s. She still loves her V-Tech and I don't think she even knows that Gameboy or DS exist ... should I bother???

Hi KerriMc,

My vote is for the ds lite :thumbsup2

My son has both the Gameboy Advance sp and the DS Lite
(and I also have a ds lite and like to do the Brain Age memory games on mine)

The DS lite is my sons's preferred unit :)

He uses it a lot for Pokemon games, but there are lots of games for girls available also princess:

It has a better lighted screen, and something that is really neat is that you can now buy an internet browser cartridge for it, so that if you have a wireless router at home or are travelling through airports etc, where there are hot spots, you can browse the internet :cool2:

I think you will see more games becoming available for the ds lite in the near future.

Hope this helps :flower3:

The DS lite is a better console and can play the GBA games. My son lost his a while back and we just bought a PSP slim.

They are so much brighter and clearer and comes with adapter. I just bought the bundle from future shop for $139.00... that included two games each valued at $25 dollars. Zellers price is awesome!

Does the Nintendo DS Lite at Zellers for $109 come bundled with any games?

Thank you

Just a heads up on the ds lite, you can buy mod chips so you don't ever have to buy a game. You have to buy a 2gb micro chip to go with it. You can fit about 37 games on the 2gb chip. PM me if you want more details. 3 of my sons have them and they love them. I got them with SDM points and also when Superstore had them on for $119.

The sale at Zellers doesn't include any games ... but I have never seen it anywhere less than $139 (at Walmart). I even called Walmart to see if they price match or beat the flyer price, but they only match. I debated returning my Zellers one though and using Walmarts price match because they have a longer return window (90 days as opposed to Zellers 30 days ... and both are after Christmas return times). But for now I have it and I am happy :cool1: Now I just have to take my Gameboy back to Walmart!

Anyone know if any other stores will beat the price? Probably wouldn't get that lucky!

My DH and I went to Zellers today and bought one for my stepson and one for our oldest DD. Then we went to Future Shop and bought the brain game. Actually FS was selling a game bundle so we bought 2 different brain games for 24.99 for the pair.

Oh Poo! The NDS was sold out at Zellers by the time I got there, and Best Buy, although they said had honoured the price match in the AM, had gotten wind it was sold out by afternoon, and wouldn't honour it by the time I got there. Oh well, next time.

I actually went out to our Walmart and took the flyer from Zellers with me. They price matched it for me. I am going to return the other one to Zellers. The only reason is that Walmart will give 90 days after Christmas if it is a Christmas gift (they write on the receipt). Zellers lady was very vague and said she thought it could be returned 30 days after Christmas. Seeing as my daughter has her 7th birthday on March 14, I can decide if I want to give it to her at Christmas or at her birthday. It is likely it won't be returned anyways, but I just like to have the option :)

Wish I could just keep one for myself ;)

Cabmom - can you give me some more info on this??

Both of my guys have the DS lite - they had the older SP's and last year we updated them...... never looked back. Love the touch screen and screen is much easier to see too. Would definatly go for the SP!

I am gonna definately check these out this week, both my guys are asking for them for xmas. Thanks for posting our Zellers has the same sale, and if they are sold out and walmart will price match then I am set. My guys had their Nintendo GBA stolen about 8 months ago along with most of their games. I found the Nintendo Micro's for around $49 so I bought them to replace the others 'cause it was kinda my fault, I was helping out with the skate club and set them down and forgot them...of course they were not handed back in!! But my daughter told me the DS will play the games that they have. Tootles Kat
