OT, gallbladder surgery tomorrow! 8 days til we leave for the World!

Sending prayer for a successful surgery and quick recovery.

I had mine out while 5 months pregnant; the attacks were so intense they could not wait.

Please update us when you get around to sitting at a computer!

Best luck and dream of Disney while you're under! :wizard:

Good luck with the surgery. Don't worry, after a week you should be doing better. I had terrible attacks to the point my DH was going to call an ambulance because we didn't know what was wrong. After finding out it was my gallbladder they told me I could wait a few weeks if I could stand it. I went in 3 weeks later on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday. I lost about 10 pounds because I could only eat the BRAT diet. I kid my friends that going on the gallbladder diet will work miracles!

Keep in mind that while you won't have a gallbladder anymore that doesn't mean you won't have some digestive issues. I would stick to a bland diet as long as you can and drink lots of water. Pop will just bloat you up more. I still have some issues after eating certain foods but it's way better than being doubled over at midnight. You should have 4 very small incisions if you are having it removed laproscopically. Mine had steri-strips to hold the incision closed, covered with gauze, then covered with Tagaderm to keep water out. Peeling that away is a real treat, let me tell you. :scared1:

Just ask your doctor anything specific you might be worried about. I agree about sleeping on the couch sitting up, that really helped a lot. Just don't over do it and take naps if you have the chance. Even a quick nap in the car at lunchtime is better than nothing. That's just what I did! Have a good vacation :)

I had mine out suddenly too this was while my DD 13 an bigger than me was very ill an could not go to potty or bathe herself someone had to be with her 24/7 as she was sleep walking etc too. We had been to Mayo clinic with her just got home that day an had to go back the next week almost 900 miles for us.

The surgery was NOTHING as soon as I was awake I was up walking down hall to elevator out the front door to god forbid smoke got out of hospital a few hours later an believe it or not got on the back of a motorcycle an went out riding bouncing around on the back of harley pushed that gas right on out an I felt much better when I got home. Thankfully I had older DD an DH that could lift DD for me for a few days.

I took my own stitches out the next week when we was at Mayo Clinic. I was worried about the ride back to the clinic too but after that ride on back of harley I had no pain.

Update: They want me to have it out tomorrow...They're concerned about it affecting my pancreas. Prayers and/or positive thoughts would be wonderful.

I'm completely freaking out. Never had any kind of surgery before....:sad1:

Thanks for all the information.

Prayers said. May you have a speedy recovery.

I think you will be suprised by how easy it goes! Take it easy though so you are up to 100% by the time your trip comes!

Please let us know how you are doing as soon as you are up to being on the computer again. I'm hoping everything went well today and that you'll be up and at 'em in no time.

Be sure to stay somewhat active to help with the gas build up. They didn't tell me that when I left the hospital and boy did it hurt in my shoulder blade the next day.

Best Wishes for a Speedy Recovery!! :grouphug:

Good Luck!

I had mine out last year in April. Mine was an odd case. I only had 2 stones, but they were both almost the diameter of a Quarter. We're talking huge! And they were impacted in the neck of the Gall Bladder. And it was infected in there, too! I was in the hospital for 4 days because my digestive organs had kind of shut down due to the "trauma". I have a drain in for all 4 of those days. I was also the youngest person on the surgical floor that week! LOL! I ended up being off work for another week after I was released, but that was only because of the infection. I felt so much better! What a world of difference for me. I never realized I was having "attacks" until a doctor I work with told me to get an ultrasound. I even put that off for a month!

Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery and a great vacation...even if you can't go on all the rides!

I second the idea about speaking with the doctor about rides. I'm sure you'll feel fine, but I can't imagine being able to ride Rock N Roller Coaster, ToT, Dinosaur -- anything that jostles you around.

I had my gallbladder out when I was 17 weeks pregnant with DS. They kept me overnight just to make sure that baby and I were ok. I was at Disney less than 2 weeks later but just to be safe I toured the parks in a wheelchair. The walking would have been too much for me and I tired easily anyway.

Good luck to you!

I didn't read all of the other replies, so forgive me if I'm repeating.

I started having attacks in September and was able to delay surgery until late November. I had one MAJOR attack in September. I've heard others being consistently sick and that was definitely not my case. I suffered no consequences of putting it off.

With that all said, I had a tough recovery because two days in I developed pneumonia. I was unable to drive for more than two weeks. Though things dramatically improved for me after about 10 days. Hopefully you'll be one of those folks that pop right back into action!

Yes, please update us! I hope all went well.
