OT- for those who have kids in school

I am in the DC area too, northern Virginia, but this is nothing like the preschool my daughter attends. We've only had to give $10 for gifts at Christmas, teacher appreciation and end of the year, and only if you really wanted to; it wasn't required. Only one fund raiser all year which you don't have to do. Next year, we will be paying $167 a month for 3 days a week. And it's a great little school.

where ARE you?

For Christmas we gave DD's 3 teachers $10 gift certs each and now with the end of the year gift, we'll give $10 a piece to Target. That way they can get themselves a nice summer book to read or something like that. We always include a nice note at the end of the year thanking them for their hard work and dedication. It's definately not an easy job teaching 3 and 4 year olds. Very busy work indeed.

It's all we can afford on top of tuition and contributing to the fundraising we do once a year.

I know our teachers appreciate anything they get because they love the children so much. You can see it...they light up when they come to the car to get the kids out.

Just get them what you can afford and be done with it.

We just finished Teacher Appreciation Week at DD8's school. A few of the moms and I put together a movies basket for the teacher (we chipped in $10/each). $30 in gift certificates, then candy, drinks, popcorn, etc. She LOVED it. The other days the kids were asked to bring in a flower on one day to create a bouquet, a spa item one day, and a sweet item one day.

We usually spend $20 on a Christmas and end of the year present, then little things throughout the year. I made candy bar wrappers on the computer saying Thank You for all you do!! for all her other teachers (computer, music, PE, art, etc....).

My DD is in public school and I'm a room mom. We're only allowed to ask for $3/child in the classroom and that's for the whole year! To cover craft days, parties, etc!!! I couldn't even imagine what a parent would say if I asked for $20 or $50!!!!
