OT ~ ? for the women about women things...

Hi ladies....

Sorry to be asking this here, but I literally don't know where to get personal stories about something....so here goes.

I had my son 11 years ago and now I am now in a serious relationship (hopefully marriage next year!!) with someone who also has an 11 yo son...needless to say, we do not want any more kids...But, we don't want to omit that option all together. I was on the Depo shot for 8 years and when I went off of it, I was told by many of my friends that I was a totally different person, and for the better, and now looking back, the side effects of that were horrific (massive weight gain, depression, low labido, etc...). I am also terrible with the pill....forget to take it at least 3 times a week. I am now also terrified of putting hormones into my body, no matter how little it may be, due to what the depo shot did to me. My doctor is a male and I trust him with my life....but this is something that I need advice from a female about....

I was recommended to try the Nuvo ring, but after doing research on it, am not comfortable with it AT ALL!!! Now, after doing my own research, I think I want to try the Mirena IUD - has anyone ever had this, and do you recommend it? I trust it more because the hormone release in it is so targeted to that one specific area. The copper IUD scares me from everything I read about it....Any thoughts from anyone would be greatly appreciated....and sorry for posting here. I don't know ANYONE who has had an IUD before, and they can't give me any advice.

Well I have the mirena and have loved it.. almost no side effects and not much of a period.. love that. I too cannot remember to take a pill.. the reason for ds coming along I would suggest the mirena over anything these days.

I totally understand about DEPO. I went through major depression, still have not gotten my libido back and gained 80 lbs. Doc never said I could gain weight because if he did I never would have done it.

Well, we "Fixed" it so we can't have kids but a few of my friends have the IUD, I will ask if they are having any problems.
