OT Fontana Village NC

So has anyone stayed and camped at Fontana Village in North Carolina? We plan on making this a stop on our way to Disney in Oct we want to mix it up so teh kids have no clue we are going there. This way they will buy into the story we are telling them that we are just going to travel around and stop at different campsites in the US. After that we are heading to Savannah GA any good campgrounds in that area?

How long are you going to stay in NC? I don't know about Fontana Village but that area is full of beautiful areas and places to see and visit. When I was a kid we went mining for gems up in that area somewhere and Great Smoky National Park is so beautiful. You're going in October, I hope that won't be too late to enjoy the leaves changing.

I've been to Fontana Dam many many years ago and can't remember what the highway is like or is it convenient to your trip. You might rethink and go into the park at Newfound Gap to see the colors.

Well we are only in NC for one night and then on to Savanah GA for the next 2 nights so we can take a day trip to Hilton Head Island. We want to take the kids to see the area I have been to Deals Gap to ride the Dragon when I used to ride sport bikes. The place is phenominal also does anyone know what the weather is generally like in the NC area in late Oct?

I live in NC and you won't miss the colors. Its depends on the temps and weather when the leaves change. If you are traveling closer to the shore the more evergreens there are. We didn't see the fall colors this past year until the Thanksgiving holidays and I'm in central NC. Temps are usually warm. 2 years ago it was so cold, and last year we had shorts on. I guess we're a wait and see place.

Yeah, the weather in NC is fickle! You might have 3 days of warm weather and 4 days of cold in the same week! Crazy

Ok thanks. So any reccomendations other than Fontana Village for a place to camp in that vicinity? We will be coming down I-75 and heading in around Knoxville TN.
