OT- Flying to Albuquerque, New Mexico...

Going to visit the in-laws. Any suggestions for things to see?

I don't know if you ski, but you can take the Sandia Tram. They are open Wednesday thru Sunday. Sorry, I haven't been to Albuquerque in years. This is the only thing I could think of.:goodvibes

There is a fine Indian Reservation to visit if you are so inclined. I won a bunch of money playing Blackjack there a few years ago.

Ironically, I am moving my mother-in-law out that way to a town called Elephant Butte, NM in May. Because she lives alone, I (along with the help of my wife) have to rent a U-Haul, pack up her apartment and drive her from Richmond, Va all the way to Elephant Butte, NM where her parents and siblings live:eek:

At least we get to make a 10 day vacation out of it and get to experience that part of the country and maybe even some real authentic mexican food.:rotfl:

My wife not wanting to leave her mother all alone in Richmond, Va was on of the sticking points as to why she didn't want us to move to Florida, well now that's not an issue:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Anyway, I plan on visiting El Paso, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. I'm sure their are some nice state parks that will be worth the visit as well.

The only advice I can give I learned from Bugs Bunny. Try to avoid making a wrong turn when you get to Albuquerque. ;)

I lived in Albuquerque for 4 years. I don't know where you live, but the best attraction in Albuquerque is the sun. It is out almost everyday.

The Tram is really great. El Pinto is a nice place to eat New Mexican food. Santa Fe is about an hour away and very nice just to stroll the Plaza and look at shops. Old Town is nice.

I guess I didn't do very much stuff there. Honestly, it is just great to be outside there. There is also a hiking trail at the bottom of the mountain if you are into that kind of thing.

I lived in Santa Fe for about 3 years and worked in ABQ. Christie Maes (in ABQ) has a WONDERFUL chicken salad sandwich that has been featered on the Food Network. Casa de Benavidez (at 8032 4th St NW) was my favorite place to get authentic New Mexican food. In Santa Fe, the Blue Corn Cafe's queso is out of this world, the Cowgirl has great fries and burgers, the Plaza Cafe has yummy breakfast and the Cantina is a great place to eat (they sing broadway show tunes while you eat).

There is a nice zoo in ABQ. Los Alamos (where the atomic bomb was built) is about 45 minutes north of Santa Fe. The Bradbury museaum is pretty cool and it's free.

More than anything, I miss the food. Have fun on your trip.
