OT: Favorite Mexican Chain

My favorite is Chipotle :lovestruc - I've been known to drive from western PA to Cleveland for Chipotle (4 hours round trip), before they (and Qdoba and Baja Fresh) came to this area.

I also once took a taxi from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport to Chipotle during a layover. That meal was known as my "free" $80 tacos - I had coupons from Chipotle, but the taxi fare was $80.

IMO, Chipotle's guacamole is better than Qdoba, although they are similar quality-wise and freshness-wise for their other menu items.

Agreed 100%, we do takeout now in order to avoid the seating - hard-edged chairs that dig into the back of your legs. They do have counter seating with stools, but that's not much better.

Ok, you convinced me. I've seen a Chipotle's around Sacaramento area where my inlaws live but I've never been. If you spent $80 to get there, I should insist we try it sometime when we visit. :)

Of the 3, the only one around here is Chipotle, which I love. I'm also very fond of Baja Fresh, but they aren't as close as Chipotle's.

It's so much better than when I first moved here. The only "Mexican" restaurant was Chi-chi's, and any place that puts *barbeque sauce* on their deep-fried burritos does NOT really qualify as Mexican food.

Of the counter service places around here, I like Qdoba best. That said, we used to have Baja Fresh and that was my favorite. Must not have been too popular though because they all closed a few years ago.

We just got a Chuy's and it is amazing! It is a sit down place and I am pretty sure it is a chain. I love it and could eat it once a week.

In the Dallas area there is a chain called Freebirds. It is similar to Chipolte but with more variety. They cayenne pepper tortilla is out of this world. They also have spinach and wheat tortillas. The chips and queso are also very good.

For what it's worth, Kim, I tried Qdoba at the Orlando airport, and I kept thinking, "It's not as good as Chipotle!"

I usually go for the soft tacos with steak or carnitas, and the guacamole is awesome. The burritos are the size of your head, so I tend to order a burrito bowl without the rice, ask for 1/2 and 1/2 on both types of beans, and add a bunch of lettuce at the end and don't miss the rice at all. They call it "salad", but I don't get it as such with the dressing. I'm happy with the salsas.

It's a toss up between Chipotle and Pollo Tropicale...both are good. :teeth:

Chipolte is my favorite. I almost always get a burritto bowl with the pulled pork, black beans and rice. My mouth is watering and I just finished lunch! It has just a little bit of spice which is perfect for me. Their guacamole (sp?) is really good too.

Freebirds has great Burritos!! They specialize in the "Big as your Face" burritos.
