OT: ENT appt - what to expect

One thing to remember is that pain meds cause constipation which was a much bigger problem for us than the surgery. :confused3
Ask your doc about taking fiber or something ahead of time.

Thank you for this info. DS is newly potty trained, so that could be a problem. :scared1:

My DS (age 3) had his adnoids and tonsils removed earlier this year. His allergist had called for x-rays of his sinus cavities and adnoids prior to the referral to the ENT. The ENT did a simple exam, reviewed the x-rays, and asked a few questions--it took 10 minutes. We scheduled surgery for a few weeks later.

My DS was having trouble breating at night. He was on strong allergy meds 2 months prior to surgery because he struggled so much to breathe at night due to enlarged adnoids and tonsils. He also has some speech issues, being understood when he talks. The surgery did not help this. We are now looking for a speech therapist, since some time has gone by with no improvement in speech. We did allergy testing post-surgery only to find he apparently has no allergies, so he did not resume the allergy meds post-surgery. His breathing at night is normal now.

About surgery, what scared my DS most was when they came for him to do surgery. I was not allowed to enter the OR while he was put to sleep. He panicked and screamed when the nurse took him. When he had circumcision at 16 monhts (my DC are adopted), I stayed with him until he was under and it went smoothly for him. DS had a sore throat for about a week, but ate almost anything he wanted right away, which concerned me but he did fine. DS is a small guy, but his appetitie and weight improved greatly after surgery. We think the breathing problems due to enlarged tonsils and adnoids interferred with his desire to eat.

Our hospital has the Little Tykes cars (and wagons for the younger ones)that the kids can drive to the back so they are so excited that they don't get upset.
