OT: Edmonton Questions

I previously posted looking for some good restuarants for my upcoming (next week) trip to Edmonton. Got some great responses so thought I would ask some additional questions

I'm coming from Maryland, US - for a long weekend in Edmonton to watch the Canadian Women's Golf Open.

1. Do I need any type of converter for my cell phone and iPod chargers?

2. Anyone know how far I can expect the drive to be from the Courtyard Marriott (99th and Jasper) to Royal Mayfair Golf Course?

I'm watching the weather everyday. We have been over 100 degrees the past several days But I'm looking forward to high 70s and sunny TIA.

First off, I'm sure you're going to love Edmonton. Welcome! Secondly, to your questions.

1. No, you won't need a convertor. We use the same power supply that you do in the US.

2. The drive from the hotel downtown to the golf course is about 3.25 miles, give or take. Or, in kilometers, which is what we use in Canada, it's about 5.5 km. Given what traffic can be like, I'd say expect the drive to take about 15 minutes, depending on the day and time you're driving it.

We are really looking forward to the trip. We have decided on two restaurants to try while we are there: Hardware Grill (Sat) and Old Spaghetti Factory (Sun)! Friday we will just wing it - depending on when our flight gets in.

I'm really excited that the hotel is so close. I have maps to the hotel and maps that show the general area of the golf course - but hadn't put them together to figure out if we were close or not. Glad we are!

Just so you know there is limited parking at the golf course, so people are being encouraged to take the LRT (train) or drive to and park at the University of Alberta and then they are offering a free shuttle service from there (3 locations around the university - Jubilee Auditorium, University Stadium Car Park (located at 116 Street & 89 Avenue) and University Windsor Car Park (located at 116 Street & 92 Avenue)) to entrance of the golf course/Hawrelak Park. (My Mum is going to the tournament too

I would recommend doing the LRT as there is a station within a block of the hotel you are staying at, and it only costs about $2.00 each way - and way less hassle.

Which ever one you decide (drive/park/bus or train/bus) once you check in to your hotel, just ask for directions/details and you will be set.

Just FYI Edmonton was in the low 50s today so be sure to pack a sweatshirt or fleece top just in case it doesn't warm up as it should

Let me give you a few tips.

Electricity arrived in Canada only in 2006 so your accommodations may not be wired yet. As for your cell phone, we aren't scheduled until 2012 for service.

In Canada as we are part of the British commonwealth we drive on the left side of the road. Unlike you folks from the U.S who drive on the wrong side of the road.

There is stagecoach service between the Marriott and the golf course.

Remember we use a metric clock. There are 10 metric hours in a day and each metric hour contains 100 minutes.

Please bring your snow shoes and winter gear as summer ends tomorrow , Autumn ends on Monday and we expect a meter (39 inches) of snow on Tuesday.

Just kidding. Edmonton is a great city to visit. Much safer than Baltimore.

Ham Ham - Baltimore isn't so bad - you just have to know where to go and where not to. I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland so we are far removed from the big city

Another great thing about Edmonton is how friendly the people are. Also no traffic!

Ham Ham, Statistics really are telling, aren't they? I'm in Grasonville - just off Kent Island. I have heard so many great things about Edmonton, I'm really looking forward to my visit - thanks for the info on the shops and restaurants (I love Mexican)

when u see the butterdome at the university give it a good wave for me.

(its a big yellow building, ya cant miss it.)
