My mom took DD(5) to see a local play last weekend (High School Musical). DD has decided she wants to be in a play. The playhouse where they held the play is having a sort of open casting call (all kids) coming up. My mom wants to take DD...and DD wants to go.

What are we getting into? Any idea what to expect?

The info on the program that I could find called (STARS Youth Program) says the season runs from October through June and they meet once a week. The cost is $25 per month (that's assuming she is cast). They put on 3 productions, although the child may not be cast in all 3.

Thanks!

My only question is why do you have to pay $25 a month? When they put the play on, don't they collect $$$ from the audience?
I don't see anything wrong to doing something like that, my DD modeled, the only thing that raises a flag to me is the money they are asking for.

I don't see $25 a month as too much money for 3-4 rehearsals. That's cheap babysitting...and the kids are learning! We have a similar thing in my area- it's a children's theater, where they have classes, etc. over the summer and also put on shows. Yes, you do make money from putting on a show, but usually that goes toward programs, costumes, the rights for the show, accompanists if necessary, etc. I say let your girl go for it and she may end up loving it! :cool1:
