OT: Do I have any recourse?

can you list it yourself on craigs list and try and get your money back? It doesn't get you the mixer that you wanted in the first place, but at least you get your money back.
 
Maybe just emailing him with the threat of taking him to small claims court if he doesn't give you your money back might work? I don't see how it could hurt (if he doesn't know where you live LOL) Sounds like you can contact him via email since he has another listing on craigs list - just respond to one of those ads.

I have sold some things on Craigs List recently and have been really pleased with the income but have been very frustrated and confused with the people that say they will show up to buy something and never do. I only sell really high dollar items on it because of the hassle.
 
I don't know what the right thing to do is in this situation, but I would not do this, it is really unsafe and if this guy is running a scam who's to say he's above hurting someone to conceal it?

I agree. I think this is really unsafe. You and your friend could end up getting hurt. I would call the police and see if they will pay him a visit, though. In smaller towns the cops will sometimes address stuff like this.
