OT- Digital Cable or Satellite?

Hello :sunny:

An off topic question here ... I am currently connected to the internet with Bell Sympatico. Rogers offered me a bundle offer to switch to digital cable and the ultra lite (I currently have the DSL with symp.) for $56. for the first two months and then 65.00 thereafter. When I called Bell they offered me a bundle with my internet and satellite (free installation). I can buy the dish or rent it for $2.50 a month. They are offering 52.50 a month including the rental of the dish and with about 90 channels.

Now ... is satellite better or is digital cable? I am totally confused ... I have the Rogers guy coming tomorrow morning and if the satellite deal is better I will go with that instead. Any ideas or suggestions? I am worried about losing the signal with the dish ... does this happen often?

Thanks for any help!!!

and love it...it does fade to black;) maybe 2x/year...but never for more than 30 seconds or so...

You have to have a dish cover if you're going to get LOTS of snowfall in a short period of time...8-10cm piled up on the little sticky outie thing needs to be cleaned off with a broom, ot get the cover. Some people here use recycling bags and tie them on for the winter months :confused3 Guess it works. We use the broom method!LOL

A HUGE rainstorm, like going to be severe weather watch idea, will knock it out briefly...but always comes back in seconds.

We love the "timeshifting" thing...miss Joey..we can pick up the Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, LA...etc, etc, feeds.

Hope this helps!!

We love our sat! We have Starchoice...and are looking forward to our new Digital Recorder/Receiver! We have never lost our signal and although sometimes I think it is overpriced - I look at the cost for BellExpress and Cable, they all seem the same.
(as for cable modem - my dad has one and now that many people are also on it he says it has gotten quite slow and after using DSL at my house has decided to go with DSL now)

hope this helps :goodvibes

We have Starchoice and I wouldn't use anything else. We have never lost a signal in a snowstorm, heavy rain or thunderstorm.

I will say this the Rogers internet is way better than Bell but the digital cable is crap so you are not any better off in the tv department.

Thank you for your replies :flower:

We did decide to try out Rogers and see if we like it. I am on ultra-lite, which is a tad slow at times, but not terrible. Bell put my account on hold for three months to see if I'd switch back or not. They told me they will pay any penalty for me to switch back from Rogers. My SIL called us the other day and they switched to Rogers as they were losing their signal from ExpressVu often, even with a cover on it. My FIL says the same, but he likes it because they gave him another dish just for their cottage.

So I guess we are trying it ... I like how they fall all over you when you decide to cancel. They offer such good deals to you just to keep you. Apparently this would be the "save" department doing their job!

Thanks again
Kerri

p.s. The digital picture is no different than regular cable as they seem to have you believe. Just a whole bunch of channels that we didn't have before.

Noticed that most had satelite but I was the only one with Rogers so I thought I would throw in my 2 cents!

I have both Digital cable and computer modem with Rogers. Computer works amazingly well without any hangups. Modem is extremely fast and their is no lag time waiting for pages and sites to change.

Digital cable is amazing! I have over 300 channels and I love the time hopping. If I miss Oprah at 4 p.m Toronto time, I can catch her at 7 p.m. on a station from Vancouver. I also receive the BBC which I love to watch as many British shows have a warped but extremely funny sense of humor.

We love the ROD - Rogers on Demand. Just last weekend my DH had to work OT on Saturday night. Oldest son was out with girlfriend so that left DS 12 and myself alone on Sat. night. I had done lots of housework and garden work during the daytime and at 8 p.m. decided I was just too tired to go to Blockbuster to rent a movie. DS12 went onto the ROD and picked a movie he wanted to watch. I input the code and purchased a new release for $4.99, much cheaper than Blockbuster and we watched the movie. Power went out at one point and we were able to go back into ROD, fast forward movie to the last scene we had watched and continued onto finish the show. Nice thing is we have the movie for 24 hours, even comes with a counter to let you know what time is left. Older son came home and was able to watch. They watched again on Sunday until 8 p.m. when it was removed from our queue. The charge shows up on our bill. We don't do this often, only when Mom is too tired to hit Blockbuster.

New releases at my Blockbuster are $5.19 and with all the coupons I end up getting my average cost per movie is $3.33. How much is Blockbuster in Mississauga?
