I was just thinking about DD's high school graduation coming up, and i was wondering.....should i have flowers or ballloons ready for her when she comes down from the stage? ( or both?)
( i plan on being as close i can for photos)
we are having a big combined graduation party for her and her BFF that next week, which i plan to give her a corsage, but i was not sure about the actual commencement service - since it is " the day" she graduates.

Thanks

Tina

I may not be the best person to respond as I do not have any children, however, I do remember when I graduated high school (Which seems like decades ago) and college, my mom had a dozen roses waiting for me as I stepped off the stage. I personally thought it was a great surprise and I wouldn't have asked for anything better. Some flower shops are able to get certain colored roses (or are able to color then with food coloring in the water) so they are the school colors, which adds a little something special to the mix. I think it would be a great gesture to do something like this personally. :) Good Luck! And congratulations to your DD!

We had a big, pretty bouquet of fresh sunflowers in different, bright colors for my DD cause she's our little sunshine. Afterward, the whole famdamily went to a special dinner. We gave her a new laptop (for college) the night before, and directly following, we took her on a graduation trip. She had the time of her life.

BTW, some flowershops are now doing names on roses. They can do pictures too!

Is it a large class that's graduating? I ask because my graduating class was 300, and no parents were allowed out of the bleachers (it took place in the gym), so there would have been no way for my mom to hand me anything until the whole thing was over. After I received my diploma I filed back to my seat with the rest of the graduates and finished the ceremony. I think colored roses would be a lovely idea, but you may want to check on your school's policy of how close you can be to the stage and so forth.

I got roses (parents) and balloons (boyfriend). I appreciated both, but I found the balloons to be annoying (and the boyfriend too, but that is another post). I only had three balloons, but they were hard to get through the crowd and back to car.

Congrats to your daughter.

:rotfl2: thanks for a much needed laugh!

As another poster said, you may not be able to greet her at the bottom of the stage, but it would be nice to give her something when you find her afterwards. I was given flowers after graduation ceremonies were over. There was no place for the parents to meet us during the actual ceremony without standing in front of people

I didn't go to my highschool graduation, but I think I'd be pretty annoyed if I were in the stands and the person in front of me had balloons.

I'd skip the flowers and get her jewelry instead (maybe a nice pair of gold earrings). She will have them long after the flowers are wilted and in the trash.

Nope...we didn't have anything for our daughter at the graduation itself.

Right after the ceremony, we saw her for about 10 minutes as we walked with her to pick up her actual diploma (they only handed out the cases during the ceremony) and then she changed into comfortable clothes, handing us the diploma, her awards and her dress clothes. The kids then all boarded buses to go out for Project Graduation.

Anything we brought to give her we'd have only been carrying it back home.

I graduated in '08. My mom had a boquet of roses for me, and each one had a tag on it from a family member or close family friend. They each said why they were so proud of me, and congrats. It was great to get them and read them after the ceremony!
My aunt also had a mickey mouse graduation hat for me. with my year on it. idk how she got it, but oh did I love it. I pulled my graduation hat off and smacked it on!

I know my school's graduation is held in a big auditorium, and after we receive our diplomas and the ceremony is over is when our families can find us.

I agree - balloons in the seating area are not a good idea! Our school just plain doesn't allow it. I volunteered at graduation and guess what my job was? Confiscating balloons. We put names on them and held them in a back room where they could be claimed AFTER the ceremony. Since parents and students are all told the rules it wasn't too bad, but we still had about 10 balloon bouquets.

Even flowers don't make sense to me. You'll have to hold them in a crowded auditiorium, climb over everyone blocking their views of their children to go present your child with flowers, which she will then have to figure out how to keep track of. How special does that seem?

What I would suggest if you want to do flowers is buying a lei, and give it to her with a big hug and kiss when you find her AFTER the ceremony. Then she can wear it on her senior night activities.
