How old were your kids when they said their first word? DS turned 7 months today and has been waving for the last few days. Tonight he was in the tub and he kept waving and saying "wabe wabe" But then he'd babble a bunch of other sounds. He did it more than a dozen times. DH thinks it's a coincidence, but I'm not sure. Anyone's kids start saying words around 7 months??

i know a few who have. No two kids are alike. I would take it as a word and the babling as him trying to tell you more. I mean I said Mama first then a bunch of babling. probley me trying to speak a sentance

This is so funny because my FIL insisted yesterday that my DN that is (get this) 7 weeks old said "hi" yesterday. We just let him think that!!!! I have heard of babies saying their first word at 7 or 8 mo so you might be right. Sounds like he is a bright little person!!! Be proud.

My son was 9 months old when my husband came home and we heard clear as a bell, "Hi Daddy!" We were stunned beyond belief, but it was witnessed by his speech therapist who also happened to be his early intervention contact, so of course, we both looked at her for verification. Yup, she heard it too!

I think its possible and probable! Way to go!

we had a girl once a 6 months say Hi while at the center. Two weeks latter she apperntly said it for her mom. We have a policy of not telling he parents.

My daughter said her first word at seven months. We were at the beach. The last full day we were there Kaylee and I was sitting on the couch. Her daddy walked in the room, and with the highest pitch voice out came " Da da - Da da. He about died. I had been trying to get her to say it for a month or so, but it finally clicked. That whole day she said da da. LOL On the way home she would scream and hum... I cant believe it has been that long ago. : (

I am a speech therapist and it sure sounds like he has his first word!!! There is a wide range of what is average and although that is really early, it still counts.

Great! Thanks for sharing your stories! He hasn't done it again today yet, but he talks more in his 15 minute bath than he does the rest of the day combined, so I'll see if he does it again tonight.... I was hoping for "mama" first, but I'll take "wabe!" :)

When my son was 9 months old he said "light on" and "light off" very clearly. From infant on whenever we carried him into and out of a room we always said "light on" and "light off" as we switched the lights on and off. My mom who had owned a daycare center and worked with kids for years didn't believe it until she saw it. There hasn't been a quiet moment at our house ever since - 5 years later!
