and I can't find any summer clothes she can wear!! The 7's are just falling off her and and the 6x's "just" fit but on the verge of being too little. She just turned 7 years old and is normal weight and size. Where and how can I get her outfitted for summer...especially for our Disney trip?

I had the same problem last year. You need to have her try different stores since the sizes vary by brand. I noticed that Gymboree sizes fit my DD much better and the slim sizes are perfect. Good luck!

For shorts/pants try a 7 slim. We find my grandson has to use "slim" for a month or two as his growth spurts are s l o w.

Buy pants with an adjustable waist, they seem to be everywhere now. If the pants don't have an adjustable waist, I "dart" them with my sewing machine. It's really easy to do and you can take the dart out when you need the pants to be bigger.

Try some different brands. DD went through that at the same sizes, and I found that from store to store the fitting varied widely. LOL Now dd just went through a growth spurt (between and 8 and 10), and pants that fit her lengthwise are to big in the waist...but slims are to tight in the rear. She has her Dad's slim tall body, but her Moms (my) booty. :cutie: So I'm off on another search for summer shorts.
I know they are pricey, but Limited Too sizes fit pretty well....and you can usually find good stuff in the clearance racks there.:cool1:

I'm right there with you! DD will be 8 in August and we've been on this 6/6X/7 threshhold for what seems like months. I bought her some really cute bermuda shorts at Kohl's (size 7) and they just fall off her. Otherwise, the adjustable waistbands have been a big help for us.

My DD will be 7 this summer and we are experiencing the same thing. As a PP said, Gymboree fits well (luckily we have an outlet nearby) and I have also found that Osh Kosh shorts fit well in a 7. I have also bought her athletic shorts (adidas and Nike) and they have drawstrings. Good luck!

I have a similar problem with DS--he's very tall, but also very, very thin. If it fits in length, it generally is too big everywhere else. We do a few things.

Buy slims with adjustable waists. He needs the waist on slim all the way down and it is still loose.

Different brands fit differently. I've found Oshkosh to run large. If I buy a size smaller in a slim with adjustable waist, it almost fits. Of course, this only works with shorts were you have some play in length. I would assume for a girl, this would work with capri pants.

There is always a tailor. If you, or a friend, can do it, all the better for you. I was surprised to find that it doesn't really cost that much to alter kids clothes a little.

Most of Target's and Old Navy's pants/shorts have the adjustable waists....and are significantly less money than Gymboree or Children's Place.

I've been having this issue w/ dd since she was a toddler! She has a long torso, normal length legs and no rear end.

I had that some problem and trust me it will continue. My DD8 is now in a size 12 because of her height and a size 8 for her waist!!:confused3 So we buy 10/12 and use the adjustable waists or belts. I also try to buy elastic waist pants when I can and then roll the top of the waist up when we have to. There's some great belts out there for girls too.

I always say buy big because when you blink they'll be in the next size!

The only problem with Old Navy, at least for boys, is that their clothes are so much bigger around. Old Navy slims fit the way most other clothes regulars fit. You can pull their waists in enough, but you still get this big old poof look. Target's fit really nicely, but we have a problem with their adjustable waists ripping. Again, it might be the boys department. Or just really bad luck.

We have the same problem! The only place we can buy DD clothes that fit is Children's Place (thank the gods for outlet stores!).

DS7 is currently in between sizes as well. It drives me crazy! 8's are too tight and 10's are too loose. We always buy adjustable waists when possible. Shorts are the hardest to get though because 10's are LONG on him but 8's are too tight! He's not even chubby or short or tall or whatever. He's average. :)

DS1 is hard to buy for too sometimes. He's 16 months old, wears at LEAST a 2T in shirts, but I tend to by 3T so he can wear them longer. Pants really need to be 24 months or 2T, depends on the brand. He is built just like DFi, long torso, short legs.

another one feeling your pain. our 7 yr ds is in size 5 shorts (size 6 in pants for length). (hes about 40-42 lbs and really short). ajustable waist pants have been fabulous.
we get most of his pants/shorts at kohls.

The Children's Place has a size that is 6x/7 and is sort of in between the two. Also, most of their bottoms have the elastic bands with buttons inside (like maternity pants) to make the waist smaller. Of all the kid stores out there, I like Children's Place the best.

one of my DD is between a 5T and a small in girls so I hear you. in walmart in the girls section they have really cute ( disney ) 2 pc short sets for about $12. the great thing is they have streach waistband shorts. if there still a bit big i sew a little tack into them and as she grows i let them out. A cute comfy outfit that fits. you might also want to try sundresses if she is "girly" :)

I have this problem everytime my daughter grows out of her pants. (height) Having that problem right now DD is 10yrs - and 7's fit her great but there getting to short and the 8's are to long ( yes she's abit short for her age). I always buy her Old Navy or Gap jeans and shorts with the adjustable thingys.

Also whated to add another problem I have is that alot of these places like The Children's Place and Gymboree the clothes are on the babyish side. And it don't help that she only wears size 7 right now in the fall I'll start buying her 8's.

We have this trouble too. DD is just 6, and the 6X is really too small. But the 7s are a bit big! The other issue is that once you to size 7, your options for cute age-appropriate clothes are really limited. We do lots of Gymboree, Naartjie, and Lands End. I have been pretty pleased with Target for summer clothes. But I do find them to run narrow and long, so we have to make adjustments.

I am also stuffing her into some 6X basics from Carters, Sears, and Kohls. The Jumping Beans Kohls store brand is pretty cute.

Next year will be the real challenge when she is a solid 8....:sad2:

I actually prefer the less "mature" look, but both TCP and Gymboree are way too pricey to shop at for everyday clothes.

It was VERY difficult to find dd (1st grade) appropriate clothes back in September before school started. That jump from 6x to 7 is killer. Why would the buyers think that I want to dress my dd like a 21yo as soon as she outgrows a 6x?
