Ok so a couple of months ago DD(4, will be 5 in November) showed me that her 2 bottom teeth were loose. She said 1 of them hurt so I figured she must have hurt herself somehow. She said it started hurting after eating an apple. So I took her to the dentist. They took x-rays and said that although she is on the early side, it looks like the roots are dissolving and it's just time for them to start coming out. He said to expect them to come out sometime before Christmas.

Fast forward to this past Sunday. DD brushed her teeth and 1 of the loose teeth is now SUPER loose. Just barely hanging on. Later in the day she was eating a popsicle and it just fell right out. She was so excited...the tooth fairy is coming...etc.

So this morning we get up and she brushes her teeth and now the other bottom tooth is SUPER loose. She was upset because it was wiggling both forward and backward and sideways and it "felt funny", but didn't hurt. I tried giving her a popsicle, but she's not much of an eater in the mornings, not even popsicle.

So she's at school now...and I'm at work. I'm wondering how long before her "big girl" teeth start to make an appearance? Anyone know? I also feel like I should take her back to the dentist (although he seemed to think everything was fine...it's not even close to December!). What do you guys think? Her regular appointment is in October.

I am so not ready for her to grow up!

It is a bit on the early side, but not unheard of. Her permanent teeth typically won't be far behind that baby one. Sometimes they actually show up before the baby tooth falls out (will start coming in behind and sometimes in front of the baby tooth). Sometimes you'll see the ridge of the permanent tooth right there already through when the baby tooth falls out. Sometimes there won't be any evidence of the baby tooth. Every tooth is different. :lmao: Rest assured though that the permanent tooth is there. The dentist would have noticed from the xray if it wasn't. It'll take weeks for it to come in all the way though. And, if it's pretty crowded in there, sometimes they'll take months to come in. My 9 year old had a baby tooth fall out and it was over a year before the permanent one came in because she's so crowded. She's now in braces. :lmao: Anyway, as a dental hygienist, I see all kinds of situations with regards to baby teeth. There is no need to take her back to the dentist before her October appt even if the new tooth doesn't make an appearance. They can evaluate her situation then. October isn't far enough away that I'd worry about getting her in sooner. :thumbsup2

Don't worry..I lost my first baby tooth just shy of 4 and had lost the last one by the time I was 10 years old. All my teeth grew in healthy and I've yet to have a single cavity!

Look on the bright side.. the tooth fairy will get to visit when $1 is still alot of money! ;)

Thank you!! Yes the new teeth were right there in the x-ray...he showed us the x-rays.

Rest assured though that the permanent tooth is there. The dentist would have noticed from the xray if it wasn't.

Thank you again! I feel much better.

We went through the same thing with DD back in Jan when she was 4 1/2, one day she was talking to me and I saw something that looked white behind her two bottom baby teeth. I looked closer and it was teeth. I was so freaked out because her bottom two teeth hadnt come out yet. I made an appt with dentist and they told me its not uncommon for them to lose the teeth at that age , that yes its on the early side but not abnormal and they also told me that her teeth coming in behind wasnt abnormal and they would move foward when they baby teeth fell out. Well the next month her baby teeth fell out and her teeth that came in behind moved up thank goodness. When I saw that in her mouth the first thought that came in my mind was , better start saving for the orthodontist lol Now she is about to lose teeth 3 and 4 and very excited about the tooth fairy again. I dont know about your dd but my dd got her baby teeth very early, when she was 4 months old and the dentist told me thats why she is on the early side. But rest assured your dd is normal and everything will be fine :)

Definitely normal. My son lost two teeth before his 5th birthday. He lost and had the entire front in by the time he was 6 1/2. Just be prepared to spend a bit on the tooth fairy for the next year and a half.

I posted something similar here just a few months ago when my 4.5 yr old DD lost 2 teeth... her adult teeth were coming in right behind them and really pushed the baby ones right out.... I thought it was way too early since my other DD lost her first one @ 5.5 yrs old and in kindergarten.... but all is well :thumbsup2

My daughter lost hers a little after she turned 5 and I bawled. Awww...congrats! It's sad that they grow up so fast!

I on the other hand just took DS who will be 12 Sept. 30th still has baby teeth 3 to be exact and he will be able to get his braces now. Go figure they are all so different.

Completely normal. Older ds lost his first at 4.5 and just lost his last baby tooth in April (he turned 9.5 on August 5). Now I'm in the process of getting appointments with orthos for consults for his braces.

Younger ds just turned 5 a couple of weeks ago. Dentist says that he'll be closer to 6 before he loses any teeth. Looked at their xrays and their mouths are completely different. Interestingly enough, they both cut their first teeth at exactly the same age.

It's tough when they start growing up but we'll all get through it.
