We want to go away for the weekend for our anniversary this fall. I'd love some suggestions for cities we should visit in Ontario. We'd rather not go to Muskoka, Toronto, Niagara or K-W as we've been to these places often. Any hidden gems? We're looking at Collingwood, but we'd love some more recommendations. Thank you!

A few places I recommend:
The Bear Trail Inn (http://couplesresort.ca/). It's an all-inclusive (with the exception of drinks) couples-only resort on the edge of Algonquin Park. Rooms with fireplaces and Jacuzzi's, lots of activities, excellent dining - great for a weekend away.

Stratford. Take in a show or two (show season runs until end of October). Tons of great restaurants and B&B's as well as restaurants. Beautiful scenery.

Goderich and/or Bayfield: Great places with great scenery along Lake Huron. Again lots of great dining and B&B's. If you prefer more night-life try Grand Bend instead. Oakwood Resort is very nice.

You mentioned Niagara - does that include Niagara on the Lake? Tons to do there and not at all like Niagara Falls. Go take some winery tours, take in a show at the Shaw Festival (again, shows until end of October), great shopping, etc.

Lots to choose from right here in Ontario.

I was going to say Bayfield too. Stratford is another great option

I proposed to my wife at the Bear Trail Inn. Lots to do there and if you get the villa they provide the firewood for the fireplace, although that likely isn't going to be used in the summer.

We've also gone to Nottawasaga Inn which isn't bad either. It is in Alliston just off the 400 where the Outlet Mall is so if you guys get bored of each other you can always go shopping!

We're taking the whole family to Blue Mountain at the end of the month. Our first time going so no idea what that would be like, but that sounds like it could be good just as a couple too. Will let you know since we're bringing grandma to stay with the kids at night so we can go out too!

I know you said Ontario, But Chateau Montebello in Quebec is awesome. It's the biggest log structure in the world. It's on the other side of the river, east of Ottawa. We love it, summer and winter. It's a Fairmont Hotel.

Agreed with Wendinator--Kingston and Prince Edward County. There are some nice wineries in Prince Edward Co.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. I'm having a great time researching them!

Our honeymoon was at the Bonnie View Inn (bonnieviewinn.com) on Lake Kashagawigamog outside Haliburton. I've had to fight the urge to go back there. The honeymoon chalet is the perfect retreat.

Kingston / Thousand Islands / Boldt Castle (bring your passport)

For more small-town charm, check out the historic towns on the Rideau Canal, such as Smith Falls, Merrickville, Manotic etc.

Of course, Ottawa / Gatineau is nice in the summer too.

Pelee Island (never tried it myself, but always wanted to)

If you want to really escape, I would highly recommend a run across the border. When I lived in Ontario, my favorite weekend get-aways were:

* Cedar Point, Sandusky, Ohio (Roller Coaster capital of the world!)

* Hershey, Pennsylvania (Hersheypark amusement park, Hershey Chocolate World, Hershey Hotel and Spa, tours of the historic town of Hershey, outlet shopping...)

* Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains, New York (it's the Banff of the east)

I've been thinking of a weekend getaway for our upcoming anniverary too, so thanks for the great ideas you guys!

The beautiful 1000 islands and stay in Gananoque! Try the Athlone Inn (my family used to own it) it is a beautiful Victorian turn of the century building with incredible fine dining. Swim in the river, take a boat cruise, take a day trip to Kingston, go kayaking (you can rent them at the docks) or see a play at the 1000 island playhouse. Gan has lots going on! There is usually something going on every weekend at the town park too. It is also a short drive to the US to do some cross-border shopping, or to Brockville, Smiths Falls, & Merrickville a charming little town.

My hubby and I go to blue mountain with our DVC points every year. We really like it there. We go in winter. Like to walk around and take in the scenery.

I highly recommend Bear Trail if you are looking for an adult getaway and can afford to splurge a bit. If I recall, breakfast and dinner are included in the price and the food was FANTASTIC. We had a massage right in our suite (I think we were in the African suite) and a hot tub on our deck. It was awesome. There were activities right on site... canoeing, hiking, etc.... we really, really enjoyed it. DH and I are both hoping to go back soon. :lovestruc
