:) Hello

I am probably going to take my dd into the doctor tomorrow if I can get her in, but I wondered if anyone here could help me a little. My 6 yr old dd has a small little crusty area next to the corners of her lips. It started as her having a little split b/w her lips, which we attributed to her lips being dry. It gradually turned into a little spot, but now there are a few other little spots with it. They have weeped a little bit, but are usually crusty. I've searched on the internet, but am still unsure.

If is it a cold sore, what should I be doing with it? I have never had one before, so I don't really know what you do to them. Does impetago start out this small?

Ugh ... she doesn't need this right now!!! We have dance recital coming up on Friday. We have rehearsal tomorrow and pictures on Thursday. Guess this means her and her sister better not share the same lipstick :upsidedow

Thanks for any help!

I had impetigo a few months ago in the crease of my ear (apparently my dad was wrong about only infants getting it :rotfl2: )

It was SUPER itchy. I wanted to scratch at it soooooooooo bad but didn't want to spread the infection.

I couldn't see what it looked like because of where it was so cant help you there.

Mine cleared up quickly with an antibiotic ointment the dr gave me.

Sounds more like a cold sore due to where you said it is and how it is reacting.

Not sure how to treat it on a child though..

Hope it gets better soon.

First of all I think you need to see the doctor. With it starting small and spreading, that sounds more like impetago. Which can be spread to anyone. It is very itchy, and can spread anywhere. Nothing over the counter will clear it up. If it is that you will need an antibiotic, either oral or a ointment. Make sure that no one is sharing linens, towels, or untensils. It clears up fairly easily, my child has had it three times, but it will just continue to grow until you get something for it.

I agree...sounds like impetigo. I used to get it at the same spot your daughter has it. Never itched, but would spread quickly. My dermatologist would give me a prescription antibiotic cream that worked super fast! Don't wait, or it could leave a discoloration.

My son just got over impetego. It started with a bunch of cold sores and then one did not heal. It turned crusty and weepy. I took him in and sure enough it was impetego. They put him on an antibiotic and it started clearing up within a day.

He woke up this morning with another cold sore. We both get them after an illness. He was sick over the weekend (sat.). I am keeping his hands and face really clean.

Good luck

If it is a cold sore try taking Lysine tablets/capsules. They are amazing -- if you feel a bump coming on start popping lysine and that is that. The cold sore will stop dead in its tracks.

If its only a cold sore ask your Doc for a Rx of Denavir it is great for cold sore it will clear them in 4 days it is a little tube and you don't need much you apply it every couple hrs for 4 days. It s the best for cold sores.

Well, it is impetago. I took her in yesterday and he took one look at it and said "impetago for sure"! So she is on an antibiotic cream and it just looks nasty getting all crusty and then overnight it ends up bleeding/weeping a tad and we seem back at square one ... but it has only been two days now. So tomorrow morning, I am hoping for a much better improvement!! We have dance photos on Thursday evening and recital on Friday night!!! (recital, not so worried ... just want her picture to look nice though).

Thanks for everyone's help. I would have posted earlier, but couldnt' get onto the dis yesterday :confused3

Hi, My DD,5 had the same thing but worse- I thought Herpes! Always reoccuring for like 6 months, he put her on Augmentin Liquid and it cleared up after 5 days. Thank GOD! He thought if the ABT doesn't work than it very well could be Herpes. Since it cleared up he was thinking probably vitamin deficientcy- since January it hasn't returned. :thumbsup2
Good Luck!
