OT...Catholic baptism

My oldest daughter's godmother is devout Irish Catholic who insisted that she buy the babys gown and bathe and dress the baby the morning of the baptism. Needless, to say I did the same, when she asked me to be her sons godmother. My other two children wore the aforementioned gown and their godparents gave monetary gifts (which was not expected but very much appreciated!) Its funny, though, my own Mom was from Ireland and said she had never heard of the whole buying the gown, bathing the baby thing. I kind of just went with the flow and let the godparents decide what they wanted to do!

My mom told me that the god parents do.. but I had my kids wear mine! My mom had it saved for (won't say how many years :rotfl: ) many years. I washed it, no it wasn't pure white, but it was mine. Who knows, I may be starting a new tradition around in my family... my kids are now 13, 17 & 19.

My daughter wore the one that I and my mother wore. Both of my sons wore the won that my husband wore. My kids didn't look near as fancy as the other babies being baptized, but I love the tradition and hope it can be carried on.

My goddaughter is getting Christened in June and I am buying the dress. With her Mom having the veto power.

Both of my sons wore a family heirloom so there was no choice for their godparents. I cant wait to buy a white frilly dress for her.
