Hello all,
I am in a dilema......I am wanting to switch auto insurance and it it so frustrating:confused: .
What auto insurance company do you use and why?????

I want to go with a reputable company with great prices so I figure I should ask real people who have dealt with them themselves.
Thanks for your help:goodvibes

I went from Allstate to Met life and my premium dropped in half. For this area Met life was the cheapest. They offered a ton of different discounts. the agent didn't try to hide any discounts they offered.

I highly recommend Farmers Insurance Group. In fact, I used to live in Illinois and can speak first hand regarding their service.

We use Nationwide for everything. My DH has been with them since he was 16 so we get great rates. At this point I don't think we ever can change unless we unbundle the home owners....insurance companies are starting to say they will not insure anyone in our zip code because of potential hurricane threat.

We switched to Geico because of the rates. :) Honestly, we checked a quote because my kids love that stupid gecko, and since I was shopping around and they were home I thought it would entertain them to see the gecko on the site while I was doing something productive. Boy was I shocked when they saved me $476 a year!

We also switched to Geico...saved a couple hundred a year. We had a company called NJ CURE which is supposed to have some of the cheapest rates in NJ (though cheap, insurance and NJ do not belong in the same sentence) and I was playing around on line and got a quote from Geico and it was cheaper. I have never had an accident or a claim so I can't really speak about their service. I do like that Gecko though........:happytv:

Do you have an agent? They're supposed to be able to help you with this decision, especially one that carries multiple carriers. Also ask trusted friends and neighbors, especially those that have had a lost. You *may* not get the best service from the low-cost carriers when you actually need them, and a good agent will know this.

(Disclaimer: I work for an insurance company that covers your state, but I won't mention the name to unduly influence you. But really, try an agent, insurance is a complex product.)

ETA: JD Powers rates insurance companies on pricing and service, you might want to check them out: http://www.jdpower.com/finance/ratings/auto_insurance/index.asp

We have GEICO and saved about half of what we were paying before. We did have a claim when DD totalled her car. No issues with them paying at all.

I also recommend Farmers and live in Illinois. Great customer service and tons of discounts. I just prefer to have a personal agent rather than the Geico or Progressive type companies.

I am a little concerned about not having someone locally if I do need them.....but the prices online are tempting too!;)
I do have an agent but I don't feel comfortable with him....he is our third new guy after 2 others pursued other interests and I've talked with him a couple of times and I just feel that he's got his interests in mind not mine.

I will check out Farmers I hadn't tried them yet, I know they do have an office here in town.
I will also check out Geico again..... I like to hear when somebody does actually have to use their insurance and doesn't have a problem with them!! The only problem I have with online comparing is that the companies get your email address and it takes forever to get them to stop sending you stuff!!
I've not heard of Nationwide but I will look into that as well:surfweb:
Has anybody had any dealings with Ohio National??????

We just left Farmers for Progressive. I liked having an agent I could call but we are saving over $700/year for two vehicles. Also, we only heard from our agent when he was trying to sell us investment products or overpriced life insurance. We haven't had to make an insurance claim in many years (knock wood) so I can't comment on how well they will be on that end. :confused3

DH works in the finance department(he is a CPA)for one of the largest insurance companies in our state, however we use Geico. We have been with them around 8 years. We have been involved in 7 wrecks - none our fault - since switching to Geico and have had great service from them everytime. Our rates have never gone up, and as a matter of fact, they went down conciderably this year.
