OT but could use the support

Samy the gerbil didn't make it. My DH found her last night.

Ironically, Hayley is holding up well. It's me. I don't know what happened. We did everything we were told to do. We changed her food every day. (We just got her on Wednesday for Hayley's bday). We even cleaned out her cage on Sat. because it started to smell a little bit.

There is a 14 day warrantee so we can get a new one but what if the new gerbil doesn't make it? UGH!

Just to add to my troubles, my DS (Garrett) woke up w/a mild fever.

Just needed to vent a bit.

I am just afraid that the pet shop will try to blame us for the gerbils death but I can't for the life of me think of anything we did wrong. We were very gentle in handling her & she seemed healthy.

Awww, Joanne! I'm so sorry to hear about the gerbil. I'm sure it's not anything you did at all, so don't blame yourself. These little guys could come home from the pet store with any type of illness that you couldn't detect, so don't blame yourself! Good luck if you decide to get a new one. My sister adopted kittens from the shelter the other week, they seemed fine but they are both sneezing like crazy now so she is going to take them to the vet for a check up. There is just no way of knowing if the animal you bring home is healthy or not unless you get one from a reputable breeder, I think, so please do not go through the "if only I had" thoughts, you did everything right!

To update, we went to the very well known chain pet store & got another. The guy told me that this has been happening to the gerbils lately.

The new gerbil named, Whiskers Twinkletail looks healthier to me. She seems more active and bigger.

Keep your fingers crossed for us. I don't know if I can handle another one. I'm such a softy.

Oh Joanne - I am so sorry to hear about Samy! I am glad that Hayley is taking it well. Wiskers Twinkletail sounds healthy. I am glad you went and got another right away. I am sure it is nothing that you did, it just happened

Hope Garrett is feeling better soon too. Take care of your family (& yourself).

Sorry to hear about Samy the gerbil. Sometimes things like this happen, no one is to blame. Since your new gerbil looks healthier that is a good sign! I know it can be upsetting, it happened with DS's fish, we bought two and one died after a week, but the other one (who always swam faster and looked better) is doing well.

Get well pixie dust headed Garrett's way, hope he is feeling better soon.

So far, so good with Whiskers. I really see a major difference in activity level & personality (biting little bugger) with this gerbil.
