Hi! This is completely off topic, but everyone here is so creative, it's the first place I thought to go. - DS's school will be celebrating a reading week at the beginning of March (around Dr. Suess' birthday) and one of the activities will be dressing up as a favorite character from a book.

DS loved "Tales of a Forth Grade Nothing" and the rest of that series (by Judy Blume) and wants to be Fudge. My question is, how do I make that kind of character (human, typical kid clothing) recognizable? Does anyone remember something specific he wore in the books? (DS does have the missing front teeth already going for him.)

Thanks in advance!

The missing teeth were the first thought that popped into my head. :) I just looked at the cover of my DD's book, and Fudge has lots of freckles. Maybe you could draw some on your DS with eyeliner? Or maybe he could carry a toy turtle for a "snack."

I don't have any specific clothing ideas, but I'd probably just take the easy way out and write "Fudge" on a t-shirt with transfers or fabric paint. Good luck!

Thank you for the freckles suggestion - I had forgotten those!

As for decorating a shirt, what do you think of painting a turtle on it in the tummy area?

I think it's a great idea! It's hard to tell how many people will "get" it, but I think my daughter would be able to recognize him. ;)

It sounds like a fun day at school! If you don't mind posting pics of your DS on here, I'd love to see the finished product.

The celebration is today (postponed by yesterday's snow), but the pics are not of Fudge after all. Here's the whole story....

After the original note (from the office to all the students) that said any character - but thankfully before I made the Fudge costume - DS's teacher specified a DR. SUESS character, and made masks with them for it in class.

DS was out sick the first day that they worked on it, so he was automatically a "Thing" (from Cat in the Hat) because that was what was left. He was kind of dissapointed, but I explained that she may have been worried about some parents not participating, and wanted to do something that would include everyone. After I also reminded him he already had the fuzzy blue hair hat (courtesy of my brother, from a visit to, um..."that other park") he thought "Thing 2" might be OK after all.

I made the white circle to put on a red shirt he already had, and he wore red sweat pants. I couldn't find red socks, so I striped some white ones with a red sharpie (like the cat's hat) and I think it looked cute enough. Here they are -
