OT: Birthday gift for 12 yr old girl

My niece's (she lives with my parents and is more like a DD to me than my niece) 12th birthday is coming up. We are trying to figure out a gift. She has agreed to not have a party and get a nicer gift. She suggested a laptop. I am on the fence about this. We were thinking of getting her a laptop for Christmas. Anyone have any ideas for a nice gift other than a laptop. She already has a Wii, Nintendo DS, I-pod and desktop computer. Thanks for your help!

How about a digital camera?

I was 12 when I got my first Canon camera (an ELPH... it was so cool!) for my birthday. I was interested in taking my own pictures on vacation, and when out with friends!

Kodak makes nice starter cameras, around $120.

Does she have an Ipod Docking station? Our DD12 got one for Christmas and loves it. It charges her Ipod she can wake to the radio or Ipod music and has two alarm sets 1 for Mom - Fri - and 1 for Sat Sun.

A Vero Bradley Purse is something girls her age would love.

Does she have any hobbies like dance, sports or could get her some kind of dancewear or sports equipment and save the laptop for a huge Christmas gift.

My DD 11 - is saving up her money for an iPOD Touch. She has a shuffle and a regular iPOD with a screen - but wants the Touch. I suggested she wait until Christmas - but her reply was that she's hoping for a PSP for Christmas. Maybe you could ask your niece for a "list" - what would she like besides the laptop? Maybe gift cards from a bunch of different places - Game Stop, Starbucks, Panera Bread, Regal Cinemas, Target, Aeropostle, iTUNES, etc. etc.
