To the OP. I too knew the middle names since we always use a close relative like a brother or a sister for them.

I partial to Thomas, but that's because I have a Thomas.

Take into consideration nick names and your last name. Lots of syllables or vowels? Can be a mouthful. A friend told me to do these things when I was pregnant and trying to decide on my second son's name:

Put The Honorable in front of the whole name (or doctor)
Shout out the whole name in a happy and angry tone several times- mostly angry since that is probably the only time when you will use the full name
Does it sound like a stage name? (This depends upon personal taste)
Put Mrs. in front of it and would you want to be called it
Write it out both in cursive and print (why both I never knew )
Imagine a baby, child and an adult with the same name

If our next one is a girl, her name will be Grier. LOL!! I like to be organized. All of my kids were named before I was even pregnant. LOL!

Our next door neighbors had their last baby right after we did. His name is Preston Cole.


I don't discuss baby names with anyone when I'm pregnant. I figure no one will say they hate it after you've already given it to your child... at least not to your face. With our last two I wrote a list of a few names that I liked and my DH looked at it and said, "I like ____". We really didnt discuss it again until after the babies were born. (We did each spend time thinking about it--alot) We looked at them and thought the names suited them. It took us forever to pick a middle name for our DD, because nothing seemed to go with her name and we wanted something meaningful. Our son was easy-- he has the same middle name as my DH and every other man in his family for several generations.

Finding names for your children is often a difficult and stressful thing. I have always wondered if your name affects who you are-- like does it affect how you see yourself or how others perceive you. Maybe I just over-analyze things. But, I have found with my kids that their names really suit their personalities and I couldnt imagine them being anything else. so it all seems to work out. good luck!

Cole is a great middle name. Some other names to consider: Abram, Jasper, Lachlan, Sebastian, Dominic, Roman, Silas, Declan. If you like surnames as first names there's also Carson, Dawson, Maddox, Sawyer, Sullivan, Jamison.

I know how hard it is to pick a name. I'm 27 weeks pregnant with my third child (boy) and am having a difficult time choosing a name this time. Like you, we have his middle name decided, but can't seem to decide on the "perfect" first name.
