OT- baby bottles

I am currently expecting out third child in December. For our other two boys- we used AVENT baby bottles. Both of my boys had acid reflux until they were 4 months. The bottles worked great except for when you would go to shake them and they would leak. I know that if you unscrew and screw back on, but it doesn't stop the fact you have to clean yourself up.

Does anyone have another type of bottle that they are in love with? I tried Dr. Brown's with my first, but AVENT worked better for him. Thanks!

I also used Avent. DH found that when you tighted the bottle too tight, they leak. Try not tightening them too much. It worked for both DD's. No more leaks!!!!!

I used Avent with my son but had trouble with the nipples. He was 9 months old and the nipple came apart, it literally came in two, right at the nipple tip part. I replaced the nipple with a brand new one. 2 weeks later the same thing happened. The nipples were not chewed up, no teeth marks or any other damage signs.I hand washed them with a sponge type cleaner. I sent them to Avent and they told me I must have stuck a sharp object in the nipple. It scared me so much I switched to a sippy cup then. So just test your nipples no matter which brand. I also had the same leaking problem. One minute the bottle was fine, the next, milk was all over the place. I could never figure why that happened either.

I had bought Avent for my DS, but he never used bottles, so I figured I'd use them for DD when we found out we were expecting. Turns out, she hated them, refused to drink out of them! We tried Dr. Brown's, she didn't like them. Out of frustration, I bought a Playtex bottle, which our oldest had used way back when.
She loved them! Never had a problem with them. I love the Drop-in liners, especially for travel. They don't leak, come with caps that are secure, and the nipples last forever. DD is now two and still takes a bottle before nap and bed, and the nipples are still in perfect shape.
Good luck finding the ones that your baby will use! Hopefully your baby won't be as picky as our DD.

I never nursed any of my children so I am a pro at bottles... I used the playtex nursers for my oldest two and tried the avent with my youngest because they were the bottle of choice. My son hated them so I went back to playtex nursers and then onto just plain walmart brand bottles he loved the..good luck

I used all the 'neat' angled and other special type and brand bottles with my first. With my second I added in some of the most basic plain cheap bottles WalMart/Target had. Seems like Gerber and Evenflo made the same basic type. For my third I had to get all new as I had sold all the baby stuff. I went for the cheapest most basic bottle because out of all the different types I had tried with the first two--they were by far my favorite. Fancy/gimmicky and/or expensive does not always mean better!!!

I second what a previous poster said about not overtightening the bottles--for some reason having them less tight seems to prevent the leaks.

Playtex disposables!!!!
All 3 of my kids used them and I cannot rave enough about them. Being able to squeeze the air out is a major benefit, my kids had no issue with spitting up when they went from breast to bottle, and breast milk to formula.
There are several different nipples for them-silicone or laytex and different shapes/sizes. The drop in liners are well worth the $ over the bags (you can mix in them, line the bottle one handed, no rips, etc.) and they can be put in the recycle bin.

Playtex disposables-they are great, I used the drop in liners. Never had leaks or a gassy baby. I used them for both of my boys.

We used playtex disposable bottles as well, but because DS had reflux very bad we switched to Dr. Brown's. The only reason we switched was they are the ones that made cereal nipples for the bottles. I got tired of trying to make the hole bigger and then buying new nipples about every 2 weeks. The only reason we put cereal in was because that was the only way to keep the formula down. He is still on nutramegin (sp) liquid gold. Turns 1 next week and we still have a little of the reflux. Moved into our new house the day we came home from the hospital and already need new carpet.

Loved how easy they were. I would wash them, line them up, measure out the powdered formula and put on the tops. When Baby woke up for a feeding I would fill them with the warm water , shake and all done!!! It was so easy to travel with them too.

DS is out of bottles now, but they're not that far in our past....

We tried every kind of bottle. We originally stocked up on Avent, but had acid reflux problems too. Tried I truly think every major bottle there is out there and ended up back with the Avent. I agree that if you don't tighten as much, they won't leak.

I agree they're not the bottle to end all bottles, but they just worked best for us. Good luck!

Both of my children had acid reflux and my doctor recommended the VentAir bottles. It did seem to help but I never could use anything more than size 1 nipples because the size 2 holes were so large they would finish a bottle in about 30 seconds -- resulting in a full-bottle spit up.

We use Avent, but I've heard great things about Dr Browns. I hear they reduce colic too.

I have to say the Dr. Browns were the best for DS. He never spit up or had gas from his bottles. I know you tried them, but personally I think they are worth the money and the pains it takes to clean them.

Thanks everyone- I think I might try the playtex ones. I really have not looked at them though. Target is having sales this week on all their baby stuff- so I asked at a good time!

I use Playtex disposables too - the Target brand drop ins ($5.99 for 100 8oz) work just as well as the Playtex brand. I love that I can do it all with one hand.

I loved the Dr. Browns. My son was very gassy, and I was told they were the best so I tried them and loved them! They are a little more expensive, and a little harder to clean, but so worth it. I have to say I tried the Paytex nurser disposables with my daughter for 3 months and gave up, I thought they were a nightmare. They were very easy to clean, but I had quite a few break on me, and with a hungry baby crying, trying to get the air out seemed to take an eternity! My vote is Dr. Brown or Platex Vent Air- good luck!!

We have used the VentAir bottles from day one and have not had a single problem with gas/spitting up. I had the opposite experience than a PP, we needed Stage 2 nipples from the start because my son got frustrated with the slowness of the Stage 1.

They are a bit of a pain to clean/reassemble, but no worse than Avent or Dr. Browns. We use a dishwasher basket (Munchkin brand from Target) to wash all the pieces and it works great. I usually make up all my bottles for a day or two and then just grab from the fridge as needed. I just fill the bottle with water and then add powder and mix when we are away from home.

It may just be me, but I didn't like the feel of the fatter bottles...that is why I originally chose the VentAir over the Avent (and the pretty colors )
