Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. We are fine here where we are. But there are many Victorians that have and are suffering terribly. The closest fires to us are over an hours drive away from here. My heart goes out to everyone involved. Naturally its dominating the news here. They expect the death toll to reach over 300 but at this stage are unable to get into many of the towns affected. It covers such a wide area. Its not just the people who have been affected. The devastation to the wildlife and farming communities is huge too. Those animals that have survived are starving as there is no food left for them. They were appealing today for food for animals and birds that have made it through. There are still many fires still burning so please keep praying for those affected.
I have to say that these fires have made me rethink my fireplan should it happen here. Plans were originally to have dh stay and protect the house and me leave with the kids. But its not worth it. Its so dry and with all the bush around, it would just burn. So he's coming with me. Its difficult not to cry everytime we see a picture in the paper, or on the TV or listen to the appeals and stories out there. These people didn't have a chance. Many didn't even know it was coming.
The one positive is that Australian's have really rallied to help those affected. Already they have raised $41,000,000 from the public to help rebuild peoples lives. It makes me feel really proud to see this.
