I got a Wii Fit a couple weeks ago and love the running programs! I am up to about 25 minutes of Wii Running after being pretty sedentary for the past 2 years. I work up a good sweat, but am I fooling myself? Does anyone know how this program compares to running on a treadmill? DH and I are going to be buying a treadmill and I'm wondering if I'm going to be in for a surprise! :lmao:

Thanks! :hippie:

I have both...will be doing the treadmill in a few minutes.

Anyway, treadmills are tougher because you can increase the speed and avoid cheating. Wii lets you slow down, and even though it tells you to keep the speed consistent, I find it easy to slow down on it. Also, treadmills have the incline which can increase the workout's intensity quite a bit.

I sometimes combine them. I go on the treadmill while doing the Wii running.

I LOVE MY WII FIT!

However I was a bit disappointed with the running b/c you can cheat, its not the same as a treadmill. Yes its a good workout but I don't feel its very consistent.

So I do still go my gym for the treadmill and when I feel really good the "horrible machine" The Eliptical, not sure how to spell it.

But I will say this, I Wii Fit everyday I started at a half hour and have worked up to 1 hour and 30 minutes staright through.

Been doing it for 2 weeks and I have lost 5 lbs! Its a start.

Thanks! I knew that the treadmill had to be a better workout somehow! We're getting a treadmill this weekend, I hope, and I am excited to start "really" running. I think I'll take the suggestion of using the Wii Fit Basic Run while on the treadmill. Records my time at least.

slightly off topic...

Did you know that you can follow any of the dogs in Wii Fit? Each one goes a different way. My 4yo has never been able to stay behind the guide, so she has always followed one (or more) of the dogs. We've had the thing for 3 months and just last night she discovered that if you follow a certain dog, you can run through the water on the beach. Just a way to add a little variety to your runs. :goodvibes

This isn't about the WII fit running - but I bought the Golds Gym for the Wii and I have to say - it is AMAZING!!! I was in so much pain after doing that - my husband made fun of me - until he did it!!

I was going to buy the Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser) but it had horrible reviews so I got the Golds Gym and would personally recommend that to anybody!!!

:lmao: That's what my DH said about my Pilates DVD. And then he couldn't move the next day! :rotfl2:

I haven't done the running one myself (I do the "step" one) but I have watched DS13 do it. I noticed it said he had gone a mile after just over 5 minutes. Um, no way. It would take at least 10 minutes to actually go a mile, maybe longer. So I REALLY question how accurate it is!

I wish we had a treadmill - I think that would be a much better workout that the running part of the Fit. :)

Yeah, I noticed that the mile counter seemed pretty off. Said I could run 3.1 miles (a 5 K I think?) in 20 minutes. Yeah, right! ;)

However, I do think it's not a bad workout (the running in place). I've noticed that it's definitely more strenuous than a walk around the block. :thumbsup2
