My Dh and I have talked for years about moving more North, but there have never been jobs where were looking... We got thinking last night that there are more than likely jobs for him in the Thunder Bay area.. (He is a millwright) Are any of you from that area? if so can you answer some questions for me

What is the housing market like there.. I see some on mls that are about 258K for a 5 bdrm on 68 acres is that about normal?

Is it a nice place to live or does it get SUPER SUPER cold in winter?

Are there jobs there for the type of job my DH does, he has worked at the same company for 17 years so he has lots of experience with his field

How is the cost of living ie groceries and gas

Thanks SO much for your help if you know these answers!

Hi I live in Thunder Bay, and it is a great place to live. The cost of housing is reasonable. Depending on what you are looking for. Look at a web site called Thunder Bay Houses. Jobs are not plentiful, but your husband may have luck being he is a millwright. We have had some of our paper/lumber mills shut down , but other places may require millwrights too. I would secure a job before moving. Where are you coming from? Winters are cold and long we often have winter days at -20 to -30 and sometimes colder. Gas is currently aprox $1.33 down from $1.55 recently. Hope that helps.

Hello! As you can see from my Signature I am also from Thunder bay - born and raised! Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all! Just so you know I LOVE THUNDER BAY! I am so totally biased because I have lived here my entire life, but I would never want to live anywhere else! Questions? ASk away and I will do my best to answer them! I concur with what the PP told you as well. Depending on what you need and which part of the city you want to be in , you can expect to pay anywhere from 55,000 to 400,000 for a home. Yes winters are VERY COLD! -20 to -30 + windchill = BRRR! But if you know how to dress and enjoy winter sporting activities, you will be fine! Gas and groceries - we live right in the city so we only drive when we need to so a tank of gas for our 1 vehicle will last us about 10 - 14 days. We probably spend between 500-700 dollars a month on Groceries for our family of 4 (that includes everything) Like the PP said, Jobs are iffy right now but with your husbands position and experience he might be lucky! Any other questions please feel free to ask! :goodvibes
