OT: Anyone had a cortisone shot?

I got my first cortisone shot in my shoulder yesterday (for bursitis). Oh my gosh, it hurts more now than it did before!! Anyone have this experience? How long before this will start working?

I've had too many of those shots to count! It should be better in at least a day, but maybe two.

Oh, my mom used to have those, she said they worked wonders with in 48 hours or so.

I have had cortisone in my elbow & wrist. I have cortisone in my back about every 4 months. My suggestion is ice pack and move the area as much as you can. It will hurt but the more you move it the more the cortisone will break up and not hurt as much.

My Dh has had 4 of them in the heel of both of his feet for plantar fasciitis
He could not walk on them much the day of but fine the next day. He said it felt like the dr. was driving a nail in his heel...

I just got a cortisone shot on a week ago last Wed for my shoulder. It hurt for about 1.5 days, then the soreness from the shot went away. The cortisone takes about 4-6 days before it totally works in. It's best just to relax your shoulder and not do any exercises on it for the first 3-4 days. My shoulder felt better after about 4 days and now I'm working through more therapy/exercises to help. Hang in there!

He was so not lying either. Those things hurt!!!!!!!!!!! I hope his feet are doing better.

OP: As with everyone else give it a day or 2 and it should feel much better

I had my second one under my shoulder blade last week. The first time I had one it took about a day and a half. This last one hurt for about 3 days.
Unfortunately it didn't work for me, but I hear they provide great relief for some people!

I had to get them in my scalp to get my hair to grow back after an alopecia outbreak. It hurt for a day or so, but then was fine. The shot was really small so it doesn't compare too well.

I agree with this!!!! I have the same condition and I about kicked the dr in the face when he gave me the shots. Oh my goodness it hurt so bad. I hope it starts to feel better for you real soon!
