Our summer holiday partly involves 4 day stop at Parksville/Rathtrevor beach. We originally booked at Tigh-na-Mara however the cost of our holiday nearly doubles by staying there. I was thinking either the Quality Resort Bayside or the Travelodge Parksville instead. Can someone from that area tell me which of the two would be a better choice for our family of five. TIA:goodvibes

I'm in that area. The Bayside is a more upscale place and it's on the Beach side.

Travelodge isn't anything special and is across the highway.

I'd go with the Bayside. They have a really nice restaurant there too. (at least it was the last time we ate there lol)

Have you looked at any of the other resorts on Rathtrevor ?

Like Ocean Trails, Madrona, I know there are others as well but I'm drawing a blank ! I'll be driving past there tomorrow so I'll try to remember to look at all the names so that you can check them out too. They are on the same road as the Tigh-na-mara.

We are (looking at other beach resorts) but most of them require a minimum 7night stay during the high season. Today I booked a cabin at Riverbend Resort. Looks like a cool place for the kids. Do you know anything about it? Is the mile high lemon pie still available at the "goats on the roof place"?(coombs);) I appreciate your suggestions and help. If you have any more please share:goodvibes

Riverbend is a campground as well if you like that type of atmosphere. No pool but they are on the Englishman River. We've driven threw it a few times and the cabins look quite nice. It's very quiet because of where it's located and it's right across from the Rathtrevor entrance. There is also a fruit/veggie stand right near Riverbend.

Coombs Market is open and they have a HUGE selection of baked items. I suspect they have the pie still lol. We went in a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe the selection. But be prepared for it to be SUPER busy there. Parking is a premium so if you see a spot anywhere on the road take it lol

If you've never been some really nice places are Englishman River Falls, and Little Qualicum Falls. They both have paths that you walk and have some beautiful scenery. We take a picnic usually and just relax there.

We also have Butterfly World here. I haven't been there in years but when we went it was really beautiful.

If you have kids and they like animals there a place called Tiger Lily Farm that has a petting farm, pony rides and trail rides. You would pass it to get to Englishman River Falls.

If you want to see some really big trees check out Cathedral Grove.

Oh and the best thing in town (I think lol) is the Mini Golf and Bumper Boats downtown. There is a mini golf near where you are staying but it's no were near the same catagory lol. And the bumper boats are a blast. But you will get soaked lol

HTH some !

Actually this portion of the holiday we were trying to avoid a pool (if you can believe it). Really want to use the beach and the river for tubing!! We are staying at pool hotels on the way down and back. Our kids have never been to the west coast before. I have been many many times almost went to the U of Vic until I saw the cost of rental places in the oak bay area :scared1: I would have been tenting it on the front lawn:lmao: I really want the kids to have a nice beach holiday this summer so Riverbend will be the "roughing it" portion of the holiday. The falls we will definitely check out! Thanks for telling us about those!! Believe me their is a little five year old boy in this house who lives for minigolf!!!!! Sounds like a fantastic 4 days we will have there. The owners of Riverbend are allowing our two older kids to put up a pup tent beside our cabin:banana: We are also doing a few days in Victoria and taking the kids to the waterpark in Tsawwassen!! Thanks so much for your help and suggestions!!!!:goodvibes

Coming home will be the worst part:guilty:
