Next spring we are looking at moving into one of those cities. My husband works up there and currently commutes an hour to/from work every day. My son will be in kindergarten in the 2009-2010 school year. We will be living in one of those cities, not sure which one though. If you have any children in those school districts, you can help me out. I am wondering what their policy is with pulling kids out for vacations. We are going this year for free dining, and I just want to be prepared if they offer bounceback. I do not want to book another trip, if the school district doesn't allow it. I can also book it, and cancel it if I need to, but I was just looking for some personal experiences.

Thanks!!

I grew up in that area, and still have family there. I'm not sure of the school's policies, but if you can afford to live in Hudson, you should - they have great schools, and the area is really nice.

Hello,

We are in Twinsburg, so not one of your towns listed, but close. I know here, we have to get any trip approved. I am planning on pulling our 2nd grader out in October.

You could probably pull up those districts websites and look for their vacation policy.

We just moved here last November and like it. I really like Hudson also, just couldn't find the right house.

This is what I found from Hudson Schools:

The Board does not believe that students should be excused from school for nonemergency trips out of the District. Students who are taken out of school for trips or vacations are not given permission to do so by the school. The responsibility for such absence resides with the parent(s), and they must not expect any work missed by their child to be retaught by the teacher. If the school is notified in advance of such a trip, reasonable efforts are made to prepare a general list of assignments for the student to do while he/she is absent.

What does that mean?? Also, if you do take your kids out of school, how old is too old to do it?

I can't imagine there are any school districts that say "yeah go ahead and take your kid out of school for a week". I think what they are saying is if you do decide to take your child out of school during the year, don't expect the teachers to re-teach your child when they return. They may not even provide him/her with their work, which could cause them to have to play a lot of catch-up when they return. Just MHO.
